Last Friday I went on a history road trip in search of the graves of 3 of the Victoria Cross winners from the Battle of Rorke's Drift.
Also managed to visit the Royal Welsh Regimental Museum in Brecon where 8 of the actual Victoria Crosses are on display.

Join me at the grave of Henry Hook VC.

Watch out for my forthcoming video all about the men who won those Victoria Crosses at Rorke's Drift and what happened to them after the battle.

My name is Chris Green ("The History Chap") and I am on a mission to share the amazing history of Britain so that we can appreciate where we have come from and why we are here.

History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens.
So rather than lectures or Youtube animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life.

My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: "Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!"

Just for the record, I do have a history degree and continue to have a passion for the subject I studied.

I am so jealous!! I didn't want to watch this because I will never get to make a trip like this. I am glad you got to go and you are sharing this with us.

What a wonderful way to spend a day, finding the graves to pay your respects 🙏. May they rest in peace for they have earned honored places in history.

I did the same thing 2 weeks ago. Really sad to see William Allen’s grave falling into disrepair

Read Gen Sir Peter De La Billiere's book, Supreme Courage, on VC winners a few years ago. If I remember correctly quite a few recipients had pretty tragic subsequent lives. Then again, sadly that's true of many combat veterans in general.

Chris...thank you so, so much for continuing enlightenment and informative Reviews...outstanding would be an understatement.
You may recall that I am a direct descendant of JOHN WILLIAM FIELDING V.C. from your History mentions on Rorke's Drift, 1879, John is laid to rest just outside Cwmbran in the Village of Llantarnam, The Church of St. Michael & All Angels.
I am a proud Member of the "1879 GROUP", formed at Brecon Barracks a few years ago and also had the enviable pleasure of meeting the then King GOODWILL ZWELITHINI, at the Barracks back in July 2019.
One poignant question to which I have never found the answer, did John actually fight at the following Battle of Uludi, July 4th 1879, I am aware that Lt Chard was involved, (not sure about Lt. Bromhead however !)....take care friend...G.A.R.
