Stereo Audio."Only Women Bleed" is a song written by Alice Cooper and Dick Wagner. It is a ballad about a woman in an abusive marriage. The song is often mistakenly presumed to be about menstruation, and that has limited its play on radio and in other public forums.

I was 12 years old when I first heard this song, it was the summer of 1975, I had my weekly chores to do around the house, clean the garage and basement, had WDVE on blasting away, my mother was home that day upstairs and heard it, after it was over she came downstairs and said to me, there is a lot of truth in those words and that song, she said you see what I have to deal with, with your father, and he was far from being a saint
She said I donโ€™t want you to ever treat a woman that way, I bought the album later that summer and played it again just to listen to the words
Powerful piece of music

When I first heard this song, I was on Okinawa with the United States Marine Corps. I told GOD I would NEVER treat my wife this way. To this day it has NOT happened. I've been happily married 38 years, I love you Lynn.

It was 1982 and I was getting into Alice Cooper, it was music a few years before my time, but was really enjoying Schools Out, Welcome To my Nightmare, No More Mister Nice Guy, Department of Youth (amazing!), so I bought Welcome to My Nightmare release from 1975. I had already listened to the cassette a few time but really didn't listen to the words of this song. I was driving into the parking lot of the Mayflower Mall in Sydney Nova Scotia with my girlfriend when I hear the lyrics for the first time. I almost burst into tears finally getting the double meaning of this song's title realizing the abuse that women take at the hand's of men. My girlfriend and I married several year later and are still happily married today. I find it hard to believe how much impact certain songs have made in my life and this is definitely one of the most important songs of my youth. Years later I have come to realize how amazingly intelligent and articulate Alice Cooper was and is. Amazing artist, amazing music.

I had the great good luck to first hear this via the welcome to my nightmare tour in 1975.... my first ever concert. Imagine the impression that made on me at the tender age of 15. I've seen all kind of mega bands and performers in the 47 years since, but none have even matched that concert. And this song was a beautiful part of that show, which still sounds great this evening.

One of my favorite bands and singers, Alice Cooper. The guy could write a song. So much soul in this and many of his other songs.

The song from Alice Cooper isn't about menstruation, but it is a metaphor for the burden women bear in a male dominated society. This record is beyond inspiring. Pure rock brilliance.

Great song by Alice. I heard it while I was stationed in Pensacola FL. Made me think how lucky I am to have the wife I got. Thank you Alice. I love you Dora. My wife for 43 years.

Absolutely beautiful song despite the subject matter. I love this version but also have great respect for the version sung by the wonderful Julie Covington.

Thanks for the info about this song. Just now remembering what a great song it really is, now that I'm listening to it, again.

It is about menstruation as well. It is about how women are oppressed because of their biological sex and reproductive function. That double meaning is what makes the song so powerful.
