Should you watch Netflix every day after school? To know the answer, you’ve got to understand a little thing called “opportunity cost."

There is an old Norwegian saying, everything has a cost either time, gold or blood.

Wait so you're telling me, that instead of watching a video that tells me I could be doing something else, I could be doing something else?

Huh

So if you make animations for a YouTube channel and that channel always gets demonetized, is it then costing you money to make those animations?

on the flip side, overworking can also end up costing you more money. for example, you get burnt out, decide to quit your job, and have trouble finding a new one, thus lowering your employment prospects. thats why, i always say to go with your gut, so if it feels right to binge on a tv show, just do it!

BUT ALSO if you're chilling out doing nothing. You're NOT spending money on going out.

NO NO NO! LISTEN TO ME! THIS IS IMPORTANT

The mindset of thinking you are missing out, when you aren't having crazy good experiences is a dangerous one! Now sitting in front of the TV is bad, true, but pressuring yourself into "getting the most out of each moment" will make you miserable.

If you have the goal of maximizing your own happiness and experience, it will have the opposite effect, because you will not see meaning or purpose in life and when you aren't absolutely happy, which is almost all the time, you will doubt yourself and beat yourself up over not "getting the most out of each moment" which in return will make you even less happy. The result is depression ladies and gentlemen.

The solution? Get rid of the experience driven mindset. Realize life is not about you. Help others and make that your purpose in life and happiness will come naturally and will be more consistent.

Probably no one will see this, but even the potential of helping someone is plenty good.

This was only marginally about Netflix.

This also applies to YT, perhaps even Moreso...

... So basically I should work all my life and not do things I enjoy unless they make me money? Fear monger much? You can say “relax all you want” as many times as you want but this video eludes to I can’t afford anything if I don’t work all the time. Not to mention, realistically, I got to spend money to make money. Not gonna buy a nice lawn mower to make near minimum wage in my free time.

The title is a bit misleading. I thought you were gonna say something something netflix makes people lose jobs or something. Can i suggest "How much does not doing anything cost you?"?

>Well then there's still a cost, just not a financial one

Like telling yourself THIS summer you're going to dive into all those programming books you've been piling up, but end up with a level 80 Paladin and 10 extra pounds instead ;;>____>
