I explore the Crash Site of CSA Flight 531.

CSA Flight 531 landed at Nicosia's runway 14 and veered to the right, 150 m short of the runway end. The Tupolev struck 2 taxi lights and skidded down a 4 feet embankment. A fire started in the no. 1 engine, but was quickly contained by the fire services.

PROBABLE CAUSE: "The failure of the pilot to stop the aircraft within the nominally adequate runway distance available and the subsequent entry of the aircraft into a right turn at high speed, as a result of which the aircraft was subjected to lateral centrifugal forces and side skidded off the runway."

The fuselage was indeed intact and upstanding, on its wheels. I visited it as a child, before the war in 1974, and there was even a staircase attached to it. Being positioned on the front line during the 1974 conflict, I can only assume that it was bombed. Thank you for sharing these images; I was always wondering what happened to it.

Dear Author,
I would like to know how did you cross the buffer zone to see the site? I heard it is impossible to do so without a permission from UN.
Waiting for your reply,
Respectfully,
Mikhail.

I wonder why it looks like this . If you see pics from the crash, the cabin and cockpit were 90/100 intact

The airplane beloged to Czechoslovakia airlines. The runway was too short for this type of terrible russian made airplane. Pilot run of the runway at landing.
