As a Japanese, I surprised at mobile companies. Cuz I've never heard all of them. Softbank, Docomo and Au are famous for mobile company in Japan.
I learned different about sim card between for Japanese and tourist.

buying online might be the easiest but not the cheapest, exchange rate is something you have to pay. might night be high for a sim card price
