Scenes like this are the reason Scream is my favorite horror film. There's nothing really scary here, and aside from setting up the classes being cancelled and continuing to remind the audience about Sydney's missing father, it's really not so crucial to the plot, except in establishing a flirtatious rapport between Dewey and Gale, giving the two a bit more depth. That focus on character is what sets this film apart from other cheap thrill slasher flicks, and makes it such a classic.

Fun Fact: David Arquette was originally offered for the role of Billy Loomis, but he chose to play the role of Deputy Dewey Riley instead (which I’m glad he did).
Another fun fact: Dewey said that he was 25 in this film. David was actually 25 when the first Scream was released in 1996. In Scream 3 at the end, Dewey and Gale Weathers got married, which what actually happened to David and Courtney Cox in real-life, but they both divorced in 2013, but remained great friends. They both shared a daughter born in 2004.






It’s still messed up they did him dirty in Scream (2022) 😢. Since they’re making Scream 6, #BringDeweyBack or find David a new, different character who reminds Gale and Sidney of their fallen friend
