after a triumphant show at First Ave in Minneapolis, circa 1999, the band left the stage in the usual fashion, but our hero Jay walked straight forward and left the stage via the 15+ people who were the audience. It was very cool. His girlfriend greeted him and they went to the bar. I did likewise, and for the next 2 hours, I discussed music and culture with Jay Farrar. He was absolutely the coolest, most laid back guy you would ever dream. He told me about the tracking of wide swing tremelo, and other minutiae. Great live band. Not many bands stack up to these guys in their 90’s prime.

The music for driving an old truck. The music for an introspective soul. The music thatll be there with you along the journey

Andrew has always been one the greatest unknown bass players in the world- one of those "effortless like breathing" players who, if they are in your band, make you sound gold every time

Son Volt - still as sublime and melodic as ever, beautifully crafted songs played with touching sensitivity and absolute perfection. Simply beautiful. American culture at its finest....

Current line up of the band is brilliant. Hope it's captured on a live DVD. In the meantime, I'll watch this session over and over. Marvellous.

Good sound.
Lead guitarist has killer tone in each of the three he played. 👍

Saw them on this tour. Was fantastic! One of my favorite bands of all time. Best vocals in the business in my opinion.

Love the fact that Jay doesn't want to interview. Let the music speak for itself.

Listening to WST this morning made cry those 'good tears'. Thank you SV. This is great also. Voice is butter.

There is something about the melancholy of Jay Farrar’s songs that grab you and pull you in.

I absolutely love Tupelo, Wilco, and Son Volt ... and I have since around when Anodyne dropped. I know every word to every Uncle Tupelo album, no joke. Jay (and Jeff) are two of the greatest American songwriters of the past ... shit... going on 30 years now. But am I only who would like to hear Jay ... just ONCE IN A WHILE ... sing a song with a LITTLE bit different style? I mean, it's literally like he's sung every song he's written in almost exactly the same way ... nearly the same key, and same phrasing ... this entire 30 years. How about just a LITTLE variety once in a while, Mr. Jay? Is that asking too much? Anyways, this still sounds great, don't get me wrong, and I still think Jay's a minor diety, to be clear.
