I'm currently unemployed as of last month. Up until 2022. It took me 3-4 months to find a new job. After I was laid off in 2023, it took 17 months to get the job I just lost.

All of this despite having a PhD in biochemistry and 23 years experience.

Normal my ass!

There's zero courtesy. No response (hello or go to hell, either way). Ghost listings, clueless hr. The process has degraded.

We need more people like this with a positive mindset focused on growth and not fear. Thank you for being a beacon of light❤

Thanks for the pep talk this morning Andy! 🔥🔥 You're right. It's a matter of perspective and consistent right action. Many people are stuck because we are trained in one area and think that is the only skill we have. Also, the way you look for a job has changed quite a bit in the last 5 years. You and Milewalk community have been a blessing. Filling the void on how to be more effective in the job search and achieve the results you want. We forget there are many ways we can help our fellow man and get paid in the process. Thanks.

This is definitely not “normal.” Is it normal to give 100 interviews and only have one offer result with a doctorate degree and 5 YOE?

I realized a lot comes down to timing looking for work in finance since November. Thought was resume was pretty good but have been making updates every month. In the last month I have had three companies interview and one more next week. It’s more so learning how to be better at interviews. Depending on job market for your area you may need to look at different job titles or similar field. I’ve even been looking at different states since I have ability to move or work remotely. Quit my last job but happy I was in position to do that since it was making me miserable. Your videos have helped me in last few months. ❤

Another tip is to apply on websites who may be competitors of your current or previous job that only have general resume submission (no specific role) but you have to be aware of this info or check online. Even had two places email me about interviews but it was at time I couldn’t move to that state.

It's very difficult out there. But Andy's coaching and methods do increase your chances. His methods, your effort, and most of all TIMING, are keys to results. But there's no way around it, it's BRUTAL out there.

Just accepted a ~120k job in finance in a state without income tax. Great benefits and even a pension.
Job searching for a little over 3 months.
Did a crazy amount of extra work during interviews to stand out and it certainly felt like a rough job market but it worked out🙌🏼 Keep at it!

I see the current job market as more hectic than bad.

Just accepted 120k offer in tech after about 90 days almost exactly.

I applied to about 3, 300 jobs 🎉

12:43 Andy was alluding to one of the Star Wars quotes here. It was to the effect of: "Obstacles in the path, define the path; What stands in the way, becomes the way" 👍

Good on you Andrew. (I'm an Australian bootcamper of old). Your help and advice was immeasurably helpful and I recommend you to friends. I am now in the midst of launching my own manufacturing business in Europe. I wish you continued success and health. (We are all living in strange times.)

While it's not '08-'09 bad, it's still bad. The revised data for March 2024 reflected a net decrease of 818, 000 jobs compared to the previous estimate, according to the BLS. Additionally, the number of foreign born workers gaining employment is increasing at a greater rate than ever before. H-1B, EAD, H-4, etc. Flooding the US with lower skilled, lower paid workers is killing the job market. Between 1994 and 2024, the foreign-born percentage of the U.S. labor force increased from 9.8% to 19.1%.

I will be more convinced of what you are saying if you tell us of your experience, as an experiment, of sending out your resume and how many interview invites you got.

Thank you thank you thank you. Your advice got me another role with an additional 20k in an essential organisation with growth potential. It was hard to leave my existing position having been there almost a combined total of 9 years in my working life but I know the move will be beneficial.

This helped ease my anxiety a bit. My company filed bankruptcy and did mass layoffs. Thank you!

Thank you for bringing actual data into the discussion...Adds a bit of context to everything going on.

But does the number get screwed by fake job postings. My former employer posted several listings that said “for future opportunities” and literally indicated that it’s not available right now. At least they’re being honest but it’s still a job listing that people can apply to… for nothing.
