I worked the flight deck of CVA-64…The USS Constellation. She had four “cats”. They sent 20-25 ton planes off in 280’… zero to 170 mph… in 2 to 2-1/2 seconds.
Then recover the “birds”. What a complex machine she was. Did nearly 500, 000 launches/recoveries in her “life”.
Our longest time doing flight ops was 49 days straight. No time off. We started at 7am. Went to 10:30-11:00 pm. I was in my early 20’s then…50 plus yrs ago now.
Proud to have served in the greatest Navy.

I was Stationed on the USS Ranger CVA-61 but I was a HT firefighter below Decks but I'd go up and watch Flight OPs! You really need to be there to believe it!!! Great video!!!

Worked the flight deck 93-97 on board CVN-69 &73. Topside Po and Safety Observer. Being an ABE, u find out what the human body can endure, physically and mentally, (20+ work days for weeks) and you get to understand what true brotherhood is, mtg some really good friends. Best experience of my life, 2- deployments, multiple operations and war zones, 22 different foreign countries( Port calls)Miss my crew. 🫡ABE2, FOR LIFE.
