Drawn from their 20 years on the Park Records label, The Essential Steeleye Span: Catch Up looks back at the recent history of one of the most prolific bands of their age. From 1996’s Time up to their Wintersmith collaboration with the late Sir Terry Pratchett, the album features some of the most memorable moments in Steeleye’s long and distinguished career; whether it be from their string of acclaimed Park releases or a number of new recordings of their most famous songs. Including rare and unreleased material, this is the perfect release for those new to the group or returning fans – a snapshot of a band still at the peak of their creative powers.

Join us on.
Somewhere Along The Road
A beautiful, largely a capella arrangement highlights the emotional depth that has attracted so many artists over the years, each voice blending in perfect harmony to bring a choral feel reminiscent of the band's classic Christmas hit 'Gaudette'. Topped off by violinist Jesse May Smart's exquisite strings, it is a song both to delight long term fans of the band and one to appeal to all lovers of thoughtful, poignant songwriting. As Kemp himself says, "a song of the natural desire and search for sanctuary and a kindred spirit, 'Somewhere Along the Road' seems to reflect our human needs in these unsettled times more than ever".

'Somewhere Along The Road' appears as a previously unreleased track on The Essential Steeleye Span - Catch Up, an album that gathers together the finest moments of the band's twenty year (and counting) relationship with Park Records. It features not only highlights of their original albums during this time but also a number of new versions of their most famous songs and is backed by an extensive UK tour.

There are musicians and music groups that will be remembered and listened to for generations and generations.
Steeleye Span is definitely on that list!

Steeleye Span... I grew up with them and as a kid, I knew all lyrics by heart of their first albums. Then I lost them, but found them again, recently and my goodness..., meanwhile, these folks didn't sit still and made so many fantastic albums. Three cheers for Spotify and YouTube.
This song, Somewhere Along The Road is sung so beautifully and all the voices go so well together, but in all honesty, I must say that I miss Peter Knight's contribution so much. His voice is so touching and unreplaceable. And the way he plays the violin..., like no other. Will he ever join the band again? Who knows...!

From Keith Jones Christian drummer Barnstaple North Devon. After 45 years of playing on the road, now retired to Bude. Enjoyed this song from Steeleye Span, always a good band. Was on the same bill with them back in l972, when I was with UK band Spirogyra. We were actually playing in France at the time. Enjoyed the few days we had over there - it seems a long time ago now, maybe one day we'll meet somewhere along the road! God Bless (K.J.) Psalm 23.

Beautiful

Can't imagine who would bother to give this a thumbs down, that is sad. Steeleye Span is so great and has lasted so long with such wonderful different unique music.

I am part of Ewanrigg Community Choir in Maryport (Cumbria UK) We are fortunate enough to not only have had a workshop with Maddy Prior - we also had Rick Kemp with us and last night we performed our version of `Deep in the darkest night` for him - which he loved. He then sang `Somewhere Along The Road` for us and asked that we do a version as well. Its a gorgeous tune and we shall be only too pleased to add this song to our list of songs. Rick your a great guy - looking forward to having you back with us to hear the song.

I have always loved Steeleye Span, I saw them live late last year in St Patrick's Cathedral in my native Dublin, absolutely stunning.
