Fly tying: Parachute Adams Variation

Показать описание
The Parachute style of flies is a slight twist on the traditional mayfly dry fly. It works especially well due to the low profile on the water, giving a very real presentation to the fish. The Parachute Adams is an old pattern but it works very well as an attractor pattern, and on rivers with relatively low fishing pressure it can be used to imitate a variety of insects which can save your butt if you don't have the right fly during a hatch.

Materials I used to tie this fly:

Hook: Standard dry fly #14
Thread: Danville 70 Denier Flymaster Plus
Tail: Moose Mane
Body: Spirit River dry fly dubbing (Adams)
Post: White Calf body
Hackle: whiting Dark Barred Ginger Saddle

Special Thanks to Kirk Ward and Jon Crossley for their help in making this video.

Thanks for the details on tying the post and the close-up shots of the thread wraps! Any suggestions for other post materials?

Excellent tie. I have been tying streamers for 10 years and found hackle color to be important with many patterns to catching fish. I have just started tying dries using the basic colors of grizzly, med dun and brown.
Question - Do you find hackle color to be important for dry fly patterns? Have you found more effective color combination(s) for catching fish? Thanks.

Great looking fly! I'm a newbee tier and was wondering if you have your workstation set up fairly high so you can look across the fly rather than down on it. Thoughts?

Nice fly but doesn't look like an Adams to me.
