For me B2 or even B1 level is enough and once I've learned a language up to this level I can start a new one. It's better for me because for example in 3 years I can learn 3 languages instead of mastering the only one. So yes, I am absolutely agree with you!

Hi!
I agree with you and I'd also like to add that it's really frustrating to try to bring one's level up to C2 if this person doesn't use this language on a daily basis. The person tries so hard to enrich his/her vocabulary with specific words and soon forgets them all for lack of use. Your video can free a person from this burden :)

It all depends on you situation and most of all what you actually want to achieve in the language. Having the drive to achieve a C1 level is something special.

For me it's important to speak as many languages as possible. I work ashotel receptionist and being able to speak fluent English, Italian and Romanian is important. At the moment, I'm brushing my French up and learning German. Considering that I speak Italian I can understand Spanish people. For me would be very easy to learn Spanish, but I don't want to focus on learning it. Yet. But I will. Good luck everyone.

I'm totally agree with you if you don't live in the country where the language is spoken, it's not necessary at all. A B2 level would be enough.

Go for C2 in all the languages that you learn and you your language learning process will be more effective

I agree with you, especially for these harder languages like Czech or Hungarian which could be too hard or not worth achieving a C1 level.

I totally agree that B2 is enough. If you are studying for pleasure or out of the country then it's a great and worthy goal. If you reach B2 the further advantage is that because the language is open to you it's less of a challenge to use the language itself to improve further, maybe over many years. Either way you improve through use and exposure. C2 levels are highly subjective and generally require extensive technical knowledge in a specific field. For instance I can talk about advanced engineering terms all day but I don't know any advanced vocabulary to talk about keeping racehorses or crochet or discussing the properties of a polytetrahedron. Learn what you need. Enjoy what you learn.

I see B2 as a good enough level to aim for. As an aspiring polyglot, I soon realized that one can not reach native-like proficiency in all the languages one may want to learn. Simply because it would take several reincarnations to do so. I think the most sensible thing to do is to aim for a C2 level only in those languages which are the most relevant to you.

In my case, I would like to reach a C2 level in at least 3 of the languages I'm currently studying. There are other languages in which I would feel content with a solid B2 level. However, I enjoy so much the learning process that I will probably always be drawn to improve my language skills as much as possible in any tongue. Especially, when you have a upper intermediate level in a language and just by listening you pick it up.

It really depends on what you are going to do with the language. If you want to enjoy literature in its original language then, you'll need a very high level of understanding. Nevertheless, if you are like me and you find bliss in casual conversations, you will not need to be a man/woman of letters.

Very sensible point you make in your video :D

For everyday daily life topics, B2 is fair enough. Academic related in higher degree language with lots of jargon/keyword you may need better than B2 to hold a conversation. I prefer everyday topics, it makes me like a normal person :)

I agree that B2 level is good enought for anyone who wants to keep a high quality conversation in a foreign language.
However, I always try to do my best in any task I assume, to reach the highest level!
And that means speaking fluently, writing perfectly, having a wide vocabulary and understanding almost everything!
That's why I will always try to be recognized as a 'c' level student! ;o)

What a great question Jan! I agree 100 % with you, but I also wonder: Let's assume that I have already achieved the B2 level in my target language, how much time (more or less) do I have to spend in order to mantain that level without too much effort? What is the minimum? What could I do? for example: Is reviewing flashcards and having a one hour conversation per week enough? :)

My dream is to use at least one language in a job or career (probably as a tour guide), so I'd like to reach C1 in a couple of my languages. The rest can certainly peak at B1 or B2 or even A2.

Firstly, thank you for that question. I'd be thrilled if I could reach B2 level in Spanish as here it is quite complicated as there is no teacher and noone to practice it (btw I live in Uzbekistan). Could you recommend any apps to improve Spanish, especially communicative language?

btw, how much time it takes to get to B1 or B2 level?

My friend, you can be at a C1 or perhaps C2 level and can barely speak the language--these certificates mean little. You don't have to pass the SPEAKING components to get these levels. However I would think that you are talking about CONVERSATION LEVELS and perhaps not the other components.

ik vind dat een B-level goed genoeg is.
