Knit Picks Yarn Swift Demo

Simply clamp the swift onto a table or counter top to start winding yarn neatly and easily. Starting with the umbrella in the down position, place the open loop of the hank over the swift and pull it lightly so the far side of the hank is against the center of the umbrella. Then, use your free hand to slide up the umbrella clamp and open the umbrella to snuggly fit the circumference of the hank. Finally, secure the umbrella clamp in place and then wind away!

For added durability, the swift features metal hardware. The metal screws feature a plastic stopper at the end to prevent scratches when clamping the swift onto a table. For best results, use in tandem with the Knit Picks ball winder. Measures approx. 26" (66cm) in diameter (68"/173cm circumference) and 26" (66cm) tall when open

I bought the swift in Onyx and absolutely love it. It is so much smoother and faster than the swift I'm replacing, which cost about $20 less. I used a cotton round between the bottom screw and my quartz countertop for some extra protection. Well worth the money!

I desperately needed this demo. I have never gotten my yarn winder to work. Yarn always pools and winds around the bottom and underside of the winder where the cog is. It’s a mess and nightmare. I never knew the winder should face the little metal holder that hold yarn from the yarn swift. I’ll try again. I wasted 100 grams of sock yarn, I was not a happy knitter. Knit Picks saves me again. I just won a KnitPicks yarn swift someone was "destashing" on eBay. (She had received it new as a gift a couple of years ago, but never used it.) From the pictures, it appears to be the newer version with the metal screws. It should arrive early next week. Looking forward to using this with my KnitPicks winder to cake up some of my nicer yarns!

I've used my swift and ball winder and the last two cakes I've wound have become horribly tangled inside the cake and when I took it off and began knitting, had a horrible mess and had to cut the yarn and wind by hand after the fact, after detangling a horrible mess. Any ideas on what could have gone wrong? Too tight of tension while winding? anything else?

I have this swift. There is a wire “spring” in the top spindle that goes into a channel that holds it all together. I had something fall on top of mine which forced the wire out and bent it. Does anyone know where I might find a replacement wire spring?

I absolutely love this swift, I've had it about a year now. Great price, sturdy hardware. I've had no issues with splinters. Smooth turns, plus it's beautiful ... I leave mine setup. I have a different yarn winder, so I can't comment on the winder in this video. BTW, KnitPicks has great customer service. I'm thinking they would be willing to issue a replacement for a defective swift.

I bought a cheap umbrella swift from eBay, and it was missing some of the string ties which should have been holding the bits of the frame together. I went back to an Amish-style swift (because that's what I was already used to), but I'm still tempted by the umbrella-style ones. Maybe a better-quality brand next time?

At the top of the swift, the wire holding up the umbrella has slipped & I cannot get in place. What do I do?

I just got my swift out for the first time, bought it a few month ago. I have pout the short screw into the top part, tried to unscrew it to loosen and move the wood stopper and the fancy end of the screw has come unscrewed instead of the screw! What do I do now?
