10 Worst Title Defences EVER!

On today’s top ten, we bring you ten of the worst title defences in recent history, from both the Premier League and around Europe. On the continent, we look at Wolfsburg and Montpellier’s defences of their first and only league titles, as well as looking at two giants in AC Milan and Real Madrid. The Spaniards dropped a host more points in their defence, but the Italians didn’t even manage a top half finish. Ajax also missed out on expectations as their golden generation of the mid-90s moved on to new challenges. Then there’s the worst in Premier League history. Manchester United failed post-Fergie, whilst Blackburn Rovers missed out on European football the season after claiming the title. Leicester of course get a mention in this, as do the post-Mourinho Chelsea of 2016. And we can’t forget this season’s Liverpool - the highs they reached last season makes the difference all the more stark. Enjoy!

Chelsea's title defence in 2015/16 is the worst I have ever seen. Finished a dismal 10th and went through 2 managers. It was a shambles

Almost all the other entries on this list are worse than this Liverpool title defence yet they are second lol. Recency bias much? Liverpool's title defence this season is about on par with Chelsea's in 17/18.

If they play rest of the matches this season well, they can still end 3rd or 4th this season, still in champions league how is that worse than some other teams on this list who didnt even finish in top ten of their respective leagues?!

Liverpool is a bit harsh, considering they still have 12 games left and they put up 99 points last season. If they finish in the top 4 it’s hardly one of the worst title defenses ever.
