Game specs:

Thank you to the publisher of @mariposagames Available on Kickstarter on May 10!!
Objective: In the course of 12 days you will hike The John Muir Trail earning trail points by collecting medallions, field cards, golden arrowheads, destination cards and efficiently using the backpack gear. You win if you made it to the end of the trail and have the highest score.
How to play highlights: Play 12 rounds each round has 3 phases sunrise, daytime and sunset. During sunrise you draw and place a weather token then draw and play a trail card. At daytime place tracks on the board. This tracks represent the number of actions you may take. Some of the actions you may take are: hike, acquire, discover, explore, resupply and elevate. Finally at sunset consume food & water, retrieve tracks, refresh field guide cards , resolve first light medallion and pass trailblazer medallion. In the last round only consume food & water at sunset.
My thoughts: I was constantly thinking about nature and the wild. All those beautiful sights pictured on the destination cards. I was seconds away of buying hiking gear and going on an adventure. But since that is not always possible this is the second best thing. The game depicts every action of a hiker from moving to the trail with the use of your map, carrying your backpack adding gears, increasing the elevation of your tent, finding lodge to rest and resupply, the effects of the weather, discovering beautiful flora and fauna on the field cards as you hike, using the natural resources around you to progress on your trip and gaining hardship tokens when you don’t have the needed resources. The designer did an excellent job putting this game together you can tell a great amount of time, dedication and knowledge went into it. The artwork is just breathtaking as every work done by the ever so talented Andrew Bosley. If you love nature theme game like wingspan or parks you will love this one. A heavier, educational and absolutely fun game!
