One of the most popular solo artists of our time, Phil Collins had 7 songs hit #1 on the Billboard charts (Sussidio, Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now), One More Night, Another Day in Paradise, Two Hearts, Separate Lives, Groovy Kind of Love), 14 top 10s and 27 total.

He had the most top 40 hits in the 1980s of any artist.

And you dare criticize his albums?

"Sussudio" is kinda cheesy and I wasn't into it until it was used in the movie American Psycho but that made me love it. The ricochet synth sound on that track really is bad ass.

I’d like to thank Joe personally, for saving this one by not only putting Against All Odds at the top of his list .. but also, by namechecking Peter Cetera, and Glory of Love!! Still my favorite love song, of the ‘80s and in fact was my favorite 45 when growing up as a kid!! So, thanks Joe.

I can’t believe I watched 50 minutes of Phil Collins album reviews, but it was entertaining. “Against All Odds” still gets the dramatic win for me. Totally forgot about The Postal Service cover. The only album anybody needs is Serious Hits… Live! 😁 Cheers, fellas! ✌🏻

Honorable mention/Guilty pleasure: I've always really liked 'Seperate Lives', with Marilyn Martin, a lot. I like the movie it came from too.

Also, lest we forget, Phil was a terrific session drummer once upon a time.. He even played on some of my hero Brian Eno's early solo albums, namely "Another Green World", "Before And After Science", and "Music For Films".

I've enjoyed this week, revisiting these old albums (well, the first 3, anyway, which are all great). Thanks!!

I love these channels. I liked Phil Collins' hit singles, but I wasn't too familiar with his work. I'm a little surprised (TBH) that his solo songs are still being played on the radio.




I remember that did a lot of early Disney stuff in the early 2000s. He was hitting his "legend" status at that time. I preferred Peter Gabriel's first two solo albums. They were really good + experimental for their time.



I remember that when I worked at a sports marketing office, my manager said the same thing about preferring Peter Gabriel over Phil Collins. It was a good time! I'll have to check out his full list of albums.


Overall, I think it's great that Phil Collins expanded his musical offerings toward dance and electronic sound for the 80s! Good discussion. (TRUST ME- THE COMMENTARY BELOW, YOU'LL GET ADDICTED TO THESE CHANNELS! They're really fun).
