Comparison between the 2022 ASUS Vivobook S 14X vs the 2021 Vivobook S14. This was a massive update to the Vivobook lineup. The new Vivobook S 14X comes with a gorgeous OLED display and an I7-12700H processor. Watch for the full comparison and thoughts. I should also mention there is a version with a RTX 3050TI if you do need the dedicated GPU.

What do you guys think of the S14X OLED?

Be careful with this guys. I have this, and the CPU throttles from 45+W to 22W after about 3 minutes on full throttle. Huge disappointment. Cinebench starts out at 14, 000 ish and drops down to 9, 000 by the time the test is complete. It's not a fully unleashed i712700 by any means due to the insufficient cooling envelope. The screen and form factor are great though.

That webcam slider should be on every laptop, love that!

Damn. Asus is just putting an H series processor into anything and everything they can! And I am absolutely loving it!!! It's like they bought too much of the chips and can't figure out what to do with them - so they're just putting them into anything they can fit them into!

I want to see the Asus M16 Vs the new Asus Vivobook 16X Oled & see them compared build wise, battery, general performance & screen wise...

& then i'd love to see something like the Asus 14X Space Edition compared to the new Lenovo 7i Slim Pro X (I think that's what it's called) the new one with the 2.8K 120hz 16:10 screen.

Those 4 laptops are kind of what I'm deciding between.

So will we get another Ryzen 6600U "ENVY vs FLEX" review? I'm interested to know how well the battery life has improved on those two.

Just bought it yesterday,

love the design of S14X OLED screen really good, color is seems to be accurate

But the battery life is really short, I unplugged and use to setup the device from 90% drained to 29% in abou 2 hrs. (screen brightness around 20%) no keyboard light

and the body is too hot ( not warm) but hot even I use in air condition room

You missed mentioning the sensible placement of delete key, that is a life saver for me as I use to press the power off key accidentally!

I've had the ASUS VivoBook S15 for a couple of years and it has been completely reliable, stable as a rock, and has a dedicated GPU. So, sadly, I can't justify upgrading it to that OLED model, as sweet as it appears to be. But it sure it tempting 🙂

I'm most interested in the 15" 2K OLED / Ryzen 5 model called VivoBook S 15X (M5602), for the big screen, longer battery life, and cheaper price.
Of course like your review unit these also come in Intel 12th Gen-H + 4K / 2.8K variants, which would decimate battery life on the small 70Wh battery that is used on all 3 sizes.

Great video Matthew are you receiving the flow x16 with mini led or the vivobook pro 16 oled with a 3070ti. Those are the two laptops I'm currently keeping an eye on. Thanks

Hey Mathew, this is a great review I am still deciding between the HP 360 X and this Asus 14x. When is this 14x coming out. I looked it up on the Asus website and there is no price. It's listed but I don't see a price. I looked on different sites and can't find it. Do you know when this 14x will be available?
Thank you for this great review.

The internal specs of S series are enough for me, just needed the 120hz refresh rate which is only available to the Pro models, kind of a bummer.

For those looking at how much RAM memory you can install in the Vivobook S 14X S5402Z , I can confirm that I was able to replace the 4gb memory stick and install a single 32gb sodimm stick in (G.Skill 32gb 3200MHz Model F4-3200C22S-32GRS) and the system recognized a total of 40gb at 3200MHz speed. I scoured the internet and could not find anyone that confirmed it was upgradeable to more than 16gb total, including Asus tech support who said you can only fit a 8gb stick in the spare memory slot. But i now have a total of 40gb (8gb soldered + 32gb sodimm DDR4). Hope this helps someone like me who wanted to maximize the memory. I'm loving this laptop with its beautiful OLED screen and over the top 14-core cpu. Next upgrade i will see if I can intall a 2TB nvme ssd to replace the 512gb....too bad we couldn't upgrade the graphics...lol.

To address the comment about the wattage please read: I bought this laptop a few weeks ago I think it’s awesome. I do prefer the 16:10 layout for a laptop now. The OLED is awesome. I’ve had several laptops with good specs but not great screens. I would trade a little less performance for this good of a screen. It’s just so fun and makes you want to use the laptop. Removed some bloatware and adjusted some Throttlestop limits (took more time reading how to do it than the actual settings) That helped so much with the heat on my lap and went from low 11k to mid 13k Cinebench score alone. Much more manageable temps, and can pull 45 watts all day long when plugged in. Awesome. Still working on efficiency and other things I can do about the heat, I may repaste and look into adding heat pipes too. It’s powerful for sure.

You can pull more watts adjusting other setting but there’s other costs. I don’t recommend i but I am looking more into I t. PL1 45, PL2 55, Turbo Time 32 seems to be ideal.

The keyboard layout seems quite different, without that mistake-prone vertical column of buttons on the right. The new layout seems much much better to me.
