Here's one for music nerds:
What many call Frequency Modulation is actually Phase Modulation. They may sound similar until you start using waveforms that aren't sine waves as the modulator. As some can guess, FM modulates the frequency (pitch) of the oscillator and PM modulates the phase position (where a waveform starts). Many plugins like Sytrus, Serum, etc. label their PM effect as FM despite the differences in operation and timbre. It still bugs me nowadays, haha.
