The Toronto Maple Leafs are shaking things up and are naming Auston Matthews the 26th captain in franchise history. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on the shakeup and whether we can expect any changes with Matthews wearing the "C." JT was a credit to the city in the way he served as Captain. He bleeds Blue and White, always showed up and was accountable, never took a shift off. I'll never say a bad word about Tavares. GREAT player!

That said, I don't think he was built to be captain in the way Sid or Toews might have been. I can see making the move, but lets not get too excited. We still have the same players, and while AM's had some great stretches in the regular season, he has never put the Leafs on his back and carried them to a series win. To me this is just a distraction from a team that hasn't done enough to change their trajectory in the off-season.

When Sundin was named captain there was complaining. Im starting to wonder if Mathiews was Canadian, would there be this much people complaining. Mathiews is the face of the team and our best player, give him a chance as captain.

I guess it makes sense .Austin Mathews is the best REGULAR SEASON player on the planet -and I stress the words REGULAR SEASON .Yes during the meaningless 82 REGULAR SEASON games he is the best on the planet .In the playoffs he is way down the list
