I commented this on a thread, but felt the need to pin it to address further comments.

“I think the point of the video is lost on some. My example of LED was merely that, an example. The point was that 40-watt lightbulb without context doesn’t mean much.”

It wouldn't be led because the FO universe is based on the idea that transistors never took off/were discovered. LEDs are a tech that was created as a result of the silicon age/transistor tech

In fallout they would definitely use incandescent lightbulbs since these were the common light bulbs in the 60's.

I'd imagine residents of the vault would be more pale than regular people. I think their eyes would adjust to not receive bright light well (vampires?). And I'd imagine a fuck load of paranoia from do-badders using the constant darkness and ruined sleeping schedule to steal from you. Maybe people have tons of schizophrenia caused by different dimly lit objects that scare them. Maybe the dweller could turn on some of the lights and bring some of the half-sane dweller back into mostly-sanity

How horrifing, it really makes me wonder what other spine chilling Stories the human mind can produce.

I can't believe they didn't make a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference with this vault.

Just imagine being trapped in a underground tomb for years or decades almost in complete darkness, could drive someone insane. Wonder if over the generations the lightbulbs would go out and the dwellers slowly evolved.

As a kid I had recurring dreams where I’d get up and turn the light on. The light would never turn fully on (it was a dimmer switch) no matter what. Now, when one of the three bulbs went out in the light fixture in my new bedroom, I went into a bit of a panic. The light level was just like how it was in my dreams from so long ago.
So the human brain can definitely be fucked with with something as simple as light levels.

The fallout universe has no sold-state devices...and that includes LEDs.
In the fallout universe, they discovered effective ways to miniaturize fusion reactors (fusion cells, fusion cores, etc). If you have that kind of portable power, there would be no impetus to develop transistors, integrated circuits, LEDs. That is why your pip-boy uses a CRT screen instead of LCD, OLED, etc.

most modern bulbs are anywhere from 60-85 watts, with 85 being nearly painfully bright

Watt has been the standard unit of measurement light bulb brightness for a really long time and even modern LEDs and halogen have on the label 40 50 120 Watt equivalent also considering the fact that the a colour CRT is the most advanced monitor in the fallout universe I highly doubt using anything other than incandescent, halogen or neon I don't know why this video bother me so much but it did. A part from that keep up the good work I quite like your videos

If you turn that on it's head and think with modern lighting, like 5-10k lumens. If you couldn't turn them off it would be so bright that it would probably be the opposite kind of experiment

Even today a lot of light bulbs brightness scales are based on the old wattage of an incandescent
Go to any store and pick up a led bulb
It’ll say “ equivalent to ___ watts” or “___ watt equivalent”

I actually prefer lower wattage/lumens in my bulbs.
It also depends on how many bulbs you have in an area.

Honestly? Why stop there? Just have all the lights go out after the vault locks

Up until 20 years ago, or so. Bulbs were only referred to by their wattage because incandescent bulbs were pretty much all that was out there.
Considering that they still use vacuum tubes, CRT screens, and the lights you craft in Fallout 4 are incandescent, I'll wager they're not talking about compact fluorescents or LED's.
