From Season 1 Episode 1 'Pilot' - Dean takes on his first assignment since his promotion, piloting the Clipper Majestic on its inaugural New York to London flight. Bridget is supposed to be his lead stewardess, until she's a no-show for the flight. Grounded purser Maggie is called in to fill in for her. On the same fateful flight, Kate adds another dimension to her work as she takes on her first assignment from U.S. intelligence. Her stress is compounded when she discovers that newly minted stewardess, Laura, her sister, is also working the same flight.

I worked for Pan Am in an office at JFK in the 60’s. While waiting for my interview I struck up a conversation with a young lady sitting next to me. She was applying to be a stewardess. She was absolutely beautiful!
She was called in before me and I saw her crying as she left her interview. I asked what happened. She was told to come back when her complexion cleared up. I swear I did not see any blemishes on that girl. Pan Am was VERY selective . Looks and weight were key. This show is spot on!

This is literally a world class series and I was so shocked that it got cancelled after Season 1. I simply cannot understand the rationale because this is so darn good. I was instantly hooked after watching the first episode and finished the rest so instantly. Rather than reviving some seasons of other shows whom is still a flop, why not consider reviving this pure gem?

I was a flight attendant when this aired. I didn't watch the first episode because I thought it would be stupid. A passenger said it was really good, so I found the episode online and got hooked. I was sad when there was no season two. And after rewatching this now, I'm a bit sad I retired, too. Damn, I sure had 35 years of fun around the world.

My Dad was a pilot for PanAm. I laughed when I saw the age of this pilot. Pilots in the early 60's were usually WWII pilots who were more of a father figure than a romantic interest as they were much older than the stewardesses.

I forgot how well shot and scored it was. Full of a sense of nostalgic romance and adventure.

when this came out, people wouldn't stop complaining about how it took place in the 60's, and called it a ripoff of Madmen, because we aren't allowed to have 2 shows that take place in the same decade at the same time.

I remember Pan Am; wonderful airline. I practically grew up on airplanes, and all the airlines gave top notch service, seats were roomy, we dressed up and it was an experience. I remember little individual bottles of perfumes in the bathrooms, playing cards, coloring books with crayons and pilot wing pins for kids. I remember my dad drinking scotch and smoking a cigar on the upper deck of the 747…!

Loved this nostalgic show, and didn't realize back then how big of a star Margot Robbie would go on to become. Shame it was cancelled, but then Margot might have missed out, so not all lost.

My Mayflower was a PanAm jet in 1970. Brought me to the USA and I have thrived ever since. The stewardesses were mighty fine and so kind. Another era.

My first flight was in 1974 with PanAm, to New York. The service was superb.

This is so cool! I remember my first flight on a Pan Am 707, June 1962 Paris to New-York. The Stewardesses were so beautiful and kind to the ten year old boy that I was. Crossing the Atlantic on a commercial airline was so civilized back then...

1969 I was 17 yo on my way to Germany as an exchange student. PanAm was the plane that would deliver me to my destination. Dress, pantyhose and heels, it felt so glamorous to be flying. The flight attendants were kind and beautiful. I wanted to be them.

I don't think I've seen the Pilot since it aired back in 2011. Now I remember why I LOVED this show so much! And that Pilot was simply brilliant. The way it weaved so many different elements together, the performances, the production re-creating the early-60s era, the music. And that concluding sequence is about as good as it gets!

*sigh* How I adored this show. :)

I watched every episode of that show when it aired and didn't understand how that show could get cancelled. It was such a colorful pallette show

I love vintage airplane drama-series, the 60s atmosphere and nuances in the airport, vintage suitcases, dressing, hairstyles, words and communication.

In 1969, my father took my brother and I to JFK to see off his friend on his honeymoon. They were flying to Europe on Pan Am. We walked on to the plane without a boarding pass or being searched to say goodbye. I remember looking into the cockpit marveling at all the dials and instruments. Eventually there was an announcement that all visitors need to leave because the plane was leaving. This was when flying was fun and you didn’t have to be searched like you’re a criminal. Nowadays flying is no fun at all. I’m glad I fly very infrequently.
