Bow Wow Admits T.I., Jadakiss, Da Brat, and Kurupt Wrote His Lyrics | For The Record

Bow Wow has been in the hip-hop spotlight since he was a kid, dropping his first album Beware of Dog when he was just 13 years old. He even sold out Madison Square Garden multiple times before this 16th birthday. Since then, he’s gone on to co-host BET’s 106 & Park as well as appear in TV shows and movies, although lately he’s become known for trolling (and being trolled) on social media.

In the latest episode of Genius' For the Record, the rapper and actor sat down with Rob Markman to have a conversation about ghostwriting, with the Ohio rapper listing a number of artists who wrote rhymes for him early in his career.

There is a science behind this people. You have song writers like The Dream, Ne-yo, and Eric Bellinger who also singers themselves. But they know for a fact if they record the song themselves, it's not gonna be as big. So they give it to another artist bigger than them, like how Ne-Yo wrote and recorded a reference demo of Irreplaceable for Beyonce.

Not everybody has the looks, swag, and charisma to be a superstar. So even if somebody is writing for you, you still have to bring everything full circle to sell it. Bow had the look and everything. He can rap, that's how he got discover as a 6 year old kid, but he needed help writing music that was appropriate for this age group.

Bow was on point !!! Much respect for this, half the artist don’t write they got people that write for them !!! As a producer and engineer it’ depends on the artist and the project. Sometimes something written from one is better then the artist writing their own; different people got different styles so there are people that can bring a certain depth and meaning that you might not be able to. Doesn’t mean you a bad artist just mean that particular project requires more then what you had or needed!!!! And as a producer you get a feel for how songs should and suppose to sound !!! Just cause you an artist and know how to write a song don’t mean you know how to make a whole album !!!! People don’t realize the structure behind that process!!!!

Bro if you are a “Rapper” your main talent is having the ability to WRITE! Anybody can be taught delivery, persona, etc. A singer’s talent is their voice, which is something you are born with. Can’t teach what’s God given so I hate when “Rappers” let other ppl write for them. It defeats the purpose in my opinion.
