Tourniquets and condoms found on killed German soldier

The body of a German soldier is found on the former eastern front with severe leg wounds and tourniquets on his legs. His wallet is also found, with two condoms inside.

I heard a US soldier say one time in an interview, about all the guys he had killed in war he said, “I wonder what it would be like if I were to sit and drink a cup of coffee with those guys and tell stories about life and laugh.” The he started crying.

My grandmothers brother was 19 when he was KIA during the battle of Scheldt in 1944. He was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously, as he ran from his artillery covered position to try & save fellow Canadian soldiers from drowning after they triggered mines that severed their legs. He managed to save the first man, but was gunned down as he carried the 2nd man out. War is absolute hell. We have made such dramatic strides in just about every aspect of our being, except how not to kill each other based on the ideology of a few & imaginary lines on a msp

And his family never got to say goodbye...just nothing. He left to war and they never saw him again and then to know he suffered horribly in his last moments. This is heart breaking

I was told by a German officer that on going out from their barracks whilst at Officers school they were required to show that they had condoms in their possession. STDs were a big morale and medical problem during WW2.
