Starting Dahlias From Seed // They’re Already Coming Up! 🌸

Показать описание
Welcome!
In today’s video I’m trying my hand at starting dahlias from seed. This all started with my goal of reading at least 50 books in 2025. One of the books I read had a character intent on starting her own cut flower farm. She referred to the book, Cut Flower Garden, by founder of @floretflowerfarm Erin Benzakein.
Through that ripple effect, I decided to read Erin’s book as well and found myself inspired to try growing my own cut flower garden. I found a small area between my house and my neighbors perfect for trying it out.
I had a few varieties I wanted to try but since I wanted to pack as many plants in as possible and seeing that tubers were going for about $10 a piece, I figured it would be better to try starting them from seeds, which I purchased on Etsy.
Varieties I’m Growing:
Pink Cafe Au Lait
Pink Labyrinth
Wizard of Oz
Melody Allegro
Pink Charlotte Mae
I got a 3-piece 72-cell tray system from Wal-Mart for about $5 and got after it using the following steps:
1. Pre-moistening the seed starting mix in a tray
2. Packing soil into the cells; gently dropping the tray to get out any air pockets and tamp the soil down
3. Adding labels and count out cells according to how many of each variety being planted
4. Using a pencil tip to make small 1/4” holes in each cell
5. Dropping 2 seeds into each cell
6. Adding a light dusting of soil over the tops of the cells
7. Adding 1-2 cm of water to the bottom tray and allow the cells to wick it up until the dusting is moist (no longer than 1 hour)
8. Covering the tray and place in a bright location that receives at least 6 hours of light each day.
I hope you enjoy the video!
