Couldn't agree more. As a data scientist dealing with data produced by people as well as systems that had been programmed by people for more than 7 years. How turns out be more important than what in the long run. If an organization tolerate unethical behavior to achieve short term profits, what's to say they won't do it again. And just imagine what happens if the organization gets caught and the case becomes public ...

When you reference the book, Good to Great, by Jim Collins I think you meant to reference In Search of Excellence by Tom Peters instead. Good to Great has many of the same messages that Start With Why does framed in a different way. The author talks about knowing your mission and he calls it the hedgehog theory.

In Search of Excellence highlights many companies that were at one time thought of as excellent. As you point out, there was corruption, misappropriation of funds, exploitation, etc. While that's true - it wasn't consistently true. Only a small percentage of companies make it for more than 100 years, and when they do, they don't often look like the founders intended.

Regardless of the book, your points are well taken. Values must be at the forefront of every daily decision to create a legacy organization. I enjoy your work very much.

Hey Simon - I desperately need your help...!! I need you to do a video series on how to start over in life. I grew up super poor, with parents who had no idea what they were doing in life, and we didn't live close to any family that could help me learn how to be successful in life. I went to a super small school that did not teach this kind of thing so I didn't get there and because I didn't know what questions I should be asking, I didn't know what I was missing. I wanted so badly to be successful but I didn't even know where to start - I didn't even know how to organize my life in such a way so as to set myself up for success, let alone, how to then design my life. Subsequently, I have gone through life just floundering - always dreaming of being someone someday as well as the dream of one day being successful; yet, I still find myself not knowing where to start or what to do. I am now 49yrs old, never been married, and I just lost my job at the beginning of December 2024 and I'm at my whits end. I'm choosing to look at this as an opportunity to start over again and hopefully create that life for myself that I've always dreamed of but I kid you not... I feel like I need someone to literally start with square one as though I were back in my childhood and someone were teaching me the things I need to know to eventually become a successful adult. I need help with discovery questions so I know what I need to be lookin at in my life and thinking about as well as working on. I also need someone to walk me through how to set good habits, good goals, and how to put processes and systems in place to make sure I'm accomplishing it all. And then I need someone to help me figure out a game plan to bring it all together and truly set myself up for success and make it work. There's sooo many 15 minute videos out there on this topic but they all just seem to ramble and I have yet to find a video, let alone, a series, let alone, a speaker that's been helpful in actually giving me questions to consider and action steps to take. I need someone to start with the baby steps at square one and walk me through it like a life coach would... I think you're the one who could truly make that happen. (I can't afford a life coach and I can't afford to take the Design Your Life classes at Stanford... I need something on YouTube or at least, something within my currently super small income pretty please!!). HELP!!
