Managing hidden Parkinson's symptoms

There is very little existing data about non-motor symptoms for Parkinson's. Yet things like depression, anxiety and constipation can cause more distress to people with Parkinson's than more visible symptoms. Parkinson's specialist Dr Robin Fackrell explains how we can manage these symptoms better.

Can we cure Parkinson's by tracking data?

I was diagnosed withf Parkinsonshis 12 yead ago and this lis one of the best presentations I have ever heard.
Lack of emotion for example is never spoken about. by doctors or
Consultans 0iI diiid not bring it up because in reiation to balance and mobility problems it seemed trivial

Really informative and helpful. It's so important for us to mention these hidden non-motor symptoms when we're seeing a consultant. I will keep a note of them and take that note to each appointment so that I don't forget to share them with the neurologist or PD nurse.

What a helpful presentation. I wish my brother had a caring doctor like you.

When you go to see a doctor you get a 15 minute slot and they only want to discuss one problem and so you never get to discuss all your issues and this is why you never receive a proper diagnosis. The symptoms are never linked to each other and when you keep visiting a doctor you feel like some sort of hypochondriac turning up with individual complaints

Your presentation is excellent. You covered everything that affects me and not recognized by any of the medical people I’ve seen over the past year. I’ve had a year of physical and mental hell. I can only pray the new year will be better.

My neurologist for 7 years fought the diagnosis even though just about every symptom box was checked and I was deteriorating every quarter. I had to go outside the system I was in, to an independent neurologist who specializes in movement disorders to get a signed diagnosis.

The in system doctor tried 12 different medications to fight the symptoms but would not try Parkinson medication. It was a frustrating, depressing and scary time. If it wasn’t for my family I would have given up years ago.

I’ve been suffering for a year with many symptoms associated with Parkinson’s. I’m passed back and forth between doctors and I feel like I’m being used as a fee tool. Dr Fackrell, s video was the closest source that hit upon many of my symptoms. I don’t know what to do next. I have major falling episodes, Hugh pain in my head, neck and shoulders. I can’t stand still without dizziness. I’m constipated and have a low energy level . On occasion my arms shake.
When I tell all these things to my doctors I’m told to drink water and see them in three months.

Thank you so much for this video which I thought was excellent. Very clear, very informative, very well presented. I am currently involved with research projects to do with identifying bio-markers and in a long study of NMS. Thanks to you all for the work that you are undertaking.

It’s 2021 and I believe I might have parking and so does my doctor. Initially I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after so many years of them not finding anything. And my doctor recently looked at me and said you can’t see fibromyalgia but I can see this, you can see this. I shuffle walk and it looks like I have Cervical distonia in my neck and i look crippled 😔 my right leg is almost useless. It started there first. Foot drop and then it progressed really slowly through the years and now here I am a complete wreck and no diagnosis and before doctors were brushing things off. But now that you can clearly see a severe problem they are taking me more seriously. Everything being discussed in this is me to a T

Excellent recapitulation of Parkinson’s symptoms that
pathetically seem to elude most neurologists.

Tremor In Parkinson’s

“It also appears to be the case that tremor is the only symptom of Parkinson’s disease that may improve on its own — some who had severe tremors have seen them virtually disappear over the period of a decade. Tremors also rarely continue to worsen beyond a certain point — at some point the tremor will plateau.”
