Have YOU ever played Champions Online? What did you think?

City of Heroes' graphics may be outdated, but the gameplay and visuals still outperform many MMORPGs that have more access to today's technology. So when Champions Online was announced, I was also super excited because the same creators of CoH would be involved in this project. And it was a "cold shower" when I saw those characters that looked like they were made of chewing gum, and when I played it later, I felt the great limitation of powers in relation to its predecessor.

City of Heroes is still, right now, the best superhero MMORPG

I currently play Champions Online. The game is not dead. At the same time though, there aren't a whole lot of people playing. Most of the continuous players have been playing for years, and are quite loyal to the franchise. The did just come out with a new Archetype last year. The Fissile... It is actually one of the best base AT's in the game as far as ranged DPS goes. Honestly though, the character customization is better than City of Heroes IMO. Here's where I am concerned. The game just changed hands to a different company. Are they going to update the game? Are these updates (if any) going to make the game better or worse? Are they going to increase the level cap and add new content? Also, I hope they keep the cash shop the way it is now, with no PTW stuff. Finally, there is the issue of have servers limited to no more than 50 people at a time. Are they going to work out a means to increase this number? There is just so much up in the air rn, and I hope the new owners don't ruin this game that I have been enjoying for pretty close to a year now. I do hope that they make an effort to improve the player numbers. Games take money to keep running. Those that currently play the game do spend money in the cash shop. It seems to be enough to keep it running. But at the same time, I would rather see the game flourish. It really isn't a bad game... Far from it. But more players would be ideal.

Its very weird this game is still around, .
This thing started as Marvel Online project, but then Marvel got cold feet and pulled out. Cryptic, not wanting to lose everything went and bought the Champions Pen and Paper rights.
In 2012 they removed the WHOLE dev tema (like 22 people) and the game have been in some sort of life support ever since.
Many belive the "On alert" update ruined the game cause it made questing pointless, you could just grind alerts after lvl 10 until lvl 40 and never leave the starting zone.
If I am correct this game is now under DECA management. Hope they have some plans for it.
Its still repeating events with lockboxes and the occasional QoL fixes.
Still it has a great character creator (if you can unlock enough costume pieces), but as game is very dry

I still play. its a shame people dont give it a chance. they thing the characters look weird but dont realise that is the player that creates them... you cn do anything for character design. city of heroes and other mmos are subpar compared to CO in my opinion as they simply slap a "hero" sticker on a normal mmo and call it a day. ...people who never gave it a chnace will say anyone remember the costume contects created by the biggest guilds and what community CO had? prob was the best and most friendly online mmo i ever played

Even after all these years, City of Heroes, was still better. RIP.

Be me: I'm a pretty creative person and this sounds like a really cool game. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna play it.

I played a fair bit of Champions Online. It never really compared to CoH, but Champions did have some cool things that made it fun to dip into here and there. I especially appreciated the global hotspots stuff (and the moon), which made for some great varied environments. And the music in the undersea area was great!

Oh wow what a throwback! Played it for quite a bit and eventually moved to DC universe online (if thats the correct name). These were so much fun!

this game brings me back. i still play it after work, but from how ive noticed the community goes about it is players level up their character until maxed out, then its endgame grinding for better gear to tank these events, OR they completely respec everything that they built to make a PvP based character. honestly, the game is also really just to show off how flashy you can be with your new costume. still a very fun and creative/imaginative game to play with (that is if you’re willing to invest time into it)

And yes, I love talking about this game... lol

been playing it for 15 years... the big problem CO suffered from was lack of advertising. the most i've ever seen is the random advertisement in random comic books (never seen but heard it's been in gaming magazines too)

Also population has been dropping for years, it really dropped when the private City of Heroes servers became a thing... The events also are the same every year and have been the same for years. They are just auto implemented. The game barely has any developers.. It is more or less just on auto pilot. They introduce new loot boxes and stuff but the companies main focus is Star Trek Online because that is where the money is.

I play this quite regularly, but yeah the game is pretty much been on life support for years, and is up thanks to a dedicated playerbase who regularly buy stuff from the cash shop. All the events are for the most part the same, you get daily quests (one to go kill a boss, one to do an alert (dungeon system of CO), etc) you gain event currency and you buy stuff from the event store with it. In the end the appeal is the customization, you can create just about any superhero you can think of, lots of costume pieces etc. In fact, every single npc on CO is actually just a customized avatar, but you cant really tell, because thats how customizable the avatars are.

The only mmo I got into were dc universe online and swtor and city of villains and that’s about it.

I have around 700 hours on this game, all of them on 2020 during lockdown. It has an amazing character creator, the quests are fun, they have spirit, but the game has been abandoned for years, you can still have some fun by yourself, but it's kinda rough trying to be part of a closed community after so long. On my experience, people are not very open on the CO community.

Champions a one hundred percent American company.

It's not active, even those few events are just sheduled reoccurent appearances once built and now relaunched with always the same missions, that are just replayed over and over again to make it look like things were still going on
