Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS is extremely popular lens since it comes with your Sony A6000 series cameras. Lots of us disregard it since its so cheap and we think kit lenses are worthless. However, in this video I took it to the streets of beautifully frozen Copenhagen, Denmark to test this lens in different occasions starting from Landscape, Architecture, Portraits and Closeups. Suit for yourself if its good or not.

This combo is sooo underated. I work in video and photography and I see too many people talk down to these body and lens combination. I think that for average user this is more than enough if you use it right, or even if you leave it on Auto mode. Great video! Likes and respect from Vietnam. Subscribed. Happy shooting!

Very nice summary, i used this lens on so many occasions and I'm always surprised of the results it delivers. Plus it is small and light, and covers a versatile focal length for many everyday life situations.

Actually in good light is quite good ! I've got some amazing shots with it, I use it mostly when I want to shoot at a wide angle.

Great video! I photograph cars as a hobby, sometimes including the interior. I still use the kit lens at 16mm f3.5 with a polariser for the interior and it works great! Just enough bokeh and separation for that use case.

love the whole copenhagen vibe! Wish there was snow in dubai lol. Also, got the A6000 this week and looking forward to making the best of it. Cheers. D

No doubt there's better quality lenses, but I always go back to this lens because of it's size and versatility, not that I have many lenses anyway. I have a long zoom lens, a manual focus wide angle lens, and a a few older lenses from a film camera I can attach with an adapter that include a macro lens and a 50mm lens. But a majority of the pictures I take are when I go hiking or am otherwise out and about. Most of the time I want a wider angle lens for most shots I take, but my dedicated wide lens is heavier and not convenient since it's manual focus. I also want to zoom in on some things sometimes so using the wide angle lens only doesn't work. Carrying around the zoom lens definitely wouldn't work. I enjoy taking pictures for fun and try not to sink a ton of money into it, so the kit lens is my most often go to. As I've heard said before, the best camera is the one you have with you. Anything too heavy to carry around on a hike just isn't going to be used. I've taken some pretty nice shots with the kit lens over the years as I've traveled around US national parks and other scenic places.

Really nice and helpful video, Toms! Im about to make a trip in Europe this January and i was really concerned if the kit lens could work for decent landscapes shots and definitively this would work. i I only Just bringing wth me a Sigma 30mm and the kit lens and will save for a Sigma 16mm for later next year since this video showed me that it is not a must. Thanks and greetings from México! Hope one day i can visit your beautiful country!

for on the fly video, surely its pretty good. Auto focus and stabalizer, for a super cheap lens. you have to pay a lot more for this in other lenses . and pretty wide too, for vlogging etc. suppose as long as ya stay away from low light

What lens do you suggest for this camera for portraits and concert photography?

Now i use a6500 + 16-55/2.8. But in the past, my camera was a6000 + this lens kit. It always be the good combo for beginner, so compact for travelling, focal range... just a little bit not good in lowlight and not really sharp.

I'm using the same Lowepro bag! I love it so far! Have you done a review of it yet?

Thanks for YouTube’s algorithm I stumbled in this guide. Straight forward and no extra information for my beginner brain cells to understand.

I agree more or less with you on this. Nowadays I hardly use this lens, maybe sometimes for convenience. It has suited me well during traveling, because it is good indeed for casual landscape etc shots. Cool vid, I definitely wanna see more of ice-cold Copenhagen, so how about an extended tour or more?
