Sam Strike has always been my favourite iteration of Johnny Carter. In fact I think the actor himself admitted, “I'm sure the writers and the people in the office had a lot more to give to Johnny, but I kind of feel like Johnny peaked quite early with that ‘coming out’ scene with Mick. After that I didn't really feel like my character was necessarily needed in EastEnders”

It’s still really hard to believe just how short his time on EastEnders was because he left literally less than a year into his contract and inevitably moved swiftly on-to the dizzy heights of Hollywood, HBO and Netflix.

I think Sam and EastEnders both knew that he probably would’ve outgrown and become bigger than his character had he stayed, thus making it difficult for viewers to carry on believing in him, so it was probably just as well that he jumped before being pushed.

I prefer Sam Strike to Ted Reilly. I get that Johnny was upset by Linda's actions but that was no way to talk to his mother!
