China will not build new coal-fire projects abroad, a move that could be pivotal in tackling global emissions.

President Xi Jinping made the announcement in his address at the United Nations General Assembly.

China has been funding coal projects in countries like Indonesia and Vietnam under a massive infrastructure project known as the Belt and Road initiative.

But it has been under pressure to end the financing, as the world tries to meet Paris climate agreement targets.

BBC can present any news in a negative way when it's about China, it's just fascinating...

Grade A for US talks only when it has never been clear in supporting Kyoto and Paris Climate Treaty in the last 2 decades.

China produces way more electricity than the US. China produces 7.5 Ghw and US only produces 4.3 Ghw. Now. China almost uses 3.75 Ghw of non coal energy and US uses 3.44 Ghw of non coal energy. Almost 3.75 Ghw of coal energy is used by China and 0.86 Ghw of Coal energy is used by US. China has taken good decision.

Now, Let's see what decision the US takes to reduce their per capita Carbon Emissions.

Whenever I see a BBC or CNN news about China, I'm sure there's no good words.

Didn't watch the video, just immediately went to the comment section to see all of the idiots complaining, and that's exactly what I saw like on every other BBC video lmfao

The issue is not only building coal power plants, it’s the developed Western world that consumes more resources than developing countries so it’s really about the West reducing their consumption.

*The philosophy of the rich and the poor is that: the rich invest their money and spend what is left. The poor spend their money and invest what is left.*

Keyword 'abroad', not 'domestic'.

When the BBC reports on China, there is no need for such a double standard. Have you heard of the word renewable energy? Is there anything wrong with allowing developing countries to enjoy the benefits of green and low-carbon power generation?

Yeah, right. It's only a pledge. As if he's gonna keep his word.

What does China mean with "abroad"?!
Will they still do new projects in China itself?

And for other countries than China it is relative "easy" to reduce CO2. Because these other countries do this when they reduce manufacturing and outsource all to China. Since China is the "factory of the world", its a bit different to reducd CO2,

It's okay, they did the calculations with their population stabilizing and so are able to offer this pledge! Literally, they know they are close to the peak and so will go down from here naturally without actually having to try!

Biden, with hands behind his back, rosy cheeks and looking down at his shoes, softly said to Xi:
"hey buddy can we talk about climate change, and maybe later about you buying more of our IOUs"?
Xi, seems uninterested, said: "we'll do our part in the climate issue, so there is no need to talk"

What is said loudly is what is done silently in China.
I don't do means I do.
