Hangar 9 Fun Scale P-47 Thunderbolt PNP Assembly & Flight Review | The RC Geek

Here's my review of the Hangar 9 Fun Scale P-47 Thunderbolt PNP (balsa). What a sweet flying little model! The construction is a throwback to the simplified shapes I remember seeing back in the day, but comes with all of the electronics pre-installed making assembly quite quick. The model can be flown on 4s with the stock 14x12 wood prop or on 6s with an APC 12x8 and they both fly surprisingly similar having good speed and vertical performance with both. I was really quite surprised by how locked in the model flew, it's really sweet! #FunScale #P47Thunderbolt #RCPlanes

Dear Mr. Geek, thank you for a really good review. Thank you for not talking over the sound of the plane in flight, which is incredible with the stock prop on 4S. Most reviewers just talk and talk and then talk some more, and they don't say a whole lot. It was refreshing to find a reviewer who talks an appropriate amount and in the right places. What is it about balsa? That thing flies like it's on rails and rock solid. Foam just don't fly like that. Subscribed, taking notes and looking forward to binging your videos. Look for a review from me on a plane that I built myself. ;-)

I've been eyeing this plane up eversince I first heard about it. You flew it fantastically well and it looks like a very nice solid performer.

Great job RC Geek, very helpful. I'm going to have to go get one of these for my quickie flights.

Mine is coming this week. I plan to make flaperons with mine. I do this all the time with my 3d planes. No need to cut into the wing and add weight just but both ailerons on two channels and make a flaperon set up. Love the review.

I know this is a couple years old, but this reminds me of an old school ARF kit with all the electrics already installed. I love the way balsa flys. I may have to get one.

A good friend of mine just got one of these. He cut the ailerons to make flaps works great. He did have his motor mount box break off. Seems it was only CA'd on . He expoied it now and it's fine now.

Good one Geekster 👍 The worst thing about the old balsa days was coming home after a days flying and cleaning all the castor goop off everything 🙂

I'm assembling it and preparing for the first flight. Does the throttle come down when landing?

Another great vid. I do like the "fun scale " approach. Currently building an old gp slab sided corsair. And back in the day built a jenco fun scale P-51 with inverted engine and retracts, and a few other tweaks.
Hope H9 does a few more of these.

Thanks for the review, do you think it would be difficult to cut the ailerons and make flaps? It seems weird to spend $500 on a scale (semi scale) warbird without flaps.

Great build video Chris, off course a great flight as well. It’s almost H9 are fighting the PNP Foam with Bulsa, I think that’s great. 👍🏻

I just cut the aileron and made flaps, haven't flown it yet but after too many slippery landings I decided to go for it.

Mine just came in, it has a ton of weights already installed on the motor mount. Also my motor mount is separated from the firewall. No glue on it at all and this is my second plane from Hanger 9 where the firewall had no glue. My 15cc Carbon Cub motor pulled out and no signs of glue on it anywhere. So if anyone buys any Hanger 9 planes, re glue to the motor mounts or at least thoroughly check them. I do it on foamies, never thought I would have to do it on a Hanger 9 plane.

It's an amazing aircraft. When using the 6s5000, did you replace only the prop with the same ESC? Was there no need to replace the ESC?

Nice flight! The landing distance is a little bit longer than I am used to though

I like 4s because I like things that are light weight
If I change to 6s, can I feel the speed getting faster?
I can seel the power increasing.

I have to ask, what Does it Cost? Does it Come with the RADIO, Batteries, Prop, and all the other things that are going to be needed?
