We Almost got Hot Rod in Dark of the Moon. The character of Hot Rod has always been plagued with controversies. During the early days of his inception, fans blamed him for Optimus Prime’s death. They felt even more insulted when he was given the Matrix and made the new leader of the Autobots. Which resulted in the showrunners demoting him and bringing Optimus back. It would take Hasbro 31 years to include him in another movie. And that would be Transformers The Last Knight. Which would double as his live action debut in the Bayverse. And it was met with mixed reactions. While fans were happy with his inclusion in the film. They were taken aback by how different he was from his G1 counterpart. His personality was off. Not to mention his overall design made him look unfamiliar. But apparently, we would’ve gotten a better design for him. And he was supposed to appear 6 years earlier in Dark of the Moon. That’s right, Hot Rod had a concept art. Which not only had a accurate color. But also featured the G1 car spoiler wings on his back.

Rodimus Prime debuted in Transformers Animated and the show even got Judd Nelson, who voiced him in G1 cartoon, to reprise his role.

He was leader of Team Athena that guard the Space Bridge and he wields an Energon Bow and Arrow ala Space Hawkeye, and faced off against Strika and her Team Chaar.

Hot Rod is supposed to be a hot headed, cocky rookie with a sportscar alt mode to match simply for the sake of him learning humility, patience and the ideals it takes to become a leader when he grabs the matrix and lights the autobots darkest hour

We could have Ultra Magnus and Hot Rod appear in Revenge of the Fallen film instead of Skids and Mudflap who were just shallow comic relief.

They would work well with Lennox and his fellow soldiers of NEST.

my first tf movie as a kid is actually is the movie hot rod became a prime and i like his character of-cause i was sad of alot of characters got kill off but i was suprise that people blame prime's death on him lol

I also like how his head design kinda looks reminiscent of his g1 head with a prime style battle mask. That and the added orange make me like that design for him a lot more than what we got

They actually made like a special kit for Dark of the Moon, with Bumblebee, and Soundwave, that featured him, but they just used a previous model of him, and named him Rodimus.
But yeah, they made other concept arts, one looks even more accurate, but it has tonfas.
And there are other versions, like Dino looks really similar I think, one of Roaduster's concept art have a Hot Rod-like color scheme, and if you look at his details in his robot mode, he have similarities, like the visor, the chainsaw, the overall body, and actually all wrecker car modes have big similarities to Hot Rod's car mode.
Interesting that they made Roadbuster look kinda like accurate Hot Rod, and then they made Hot Rod look kinda like accurate Roadbuster...

People cry too much. Bumblebee is MUCH different in both design and character from G1 and everyone loves him
