Hey I just came across your review, sorry to hear you didn't really care for the story. I actually read these books in backwards order, picked up Vespertine because it looked interesting on the shelf and liked it enough to immediately buy SoT & EoR and read within a week.

I really liked the character of the Revenent him(it?)self, the deadpan "Ugh, stupid nun, must I do everything myself?" shielding a deeper caring side appealed to me. If you haven't encountered them, another good series with possession/partnership themes is the Penric and Desdemona novellas by Lois McMaster Bujold. If you think having one voice in your head would be odd, how about seven?
