Is Nano-Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste Replacing Fluoride?

Nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) vs. fluoride toothpaste: Without nHA regulation, it's hard to recommend it over fluoride. Fluoride toothpaste is regulated and more effective than nHA in acidic conditions. Plus, not all nHA toothpaste is created equal—many lack the necessary 10% nano-sized particles, which are crucial for effectiveness. Until nHA gets proper oversight, I’m sticking with fluoride, but I remain open-minded for those who choose to use it (and I’ll continue educating about the importance of 10% nano-size, rod-shaped particles). A lot of trust goes into companies making honest claims, and I hope to see regulatory approval one day. nHA toothpaste has great potential, but only when it meets the right concentration, particle size, and shape. Hopefully the bar will soon be raised to hold fluoride alternatives to the same high standards as fluoride. Until then, let’s keep the conversation kind and evidence-based! Additionally, nHA toothpaste is expensive—often $20-$30 per tube for those that actually contain 10%. I can’t confidently recommend something so costly without knowing for sure that it contains what it claims. If a patient refuses fluoride, I’ll suggest nHA options, but I also make sure to educate them. Without regulatory oversight, we can’t guarantee these nHA products work as advertised or that they contain the necessary 10% nano-sized particles. Hope this helps!

i love your approach to this, combating misinformation while still meeting people where they are.

What’s scary is I’ve met older nurses who don’t understand this science and just go by fear and social media. This is why understanding how to research correctly and stay up to date is so so important. (Can you tell I’m sick of American science majors lacking proper education and having egos)

Thank you for giving the nuanced information about nHA and fluoride toothpaste. I came across a functional dentist, during a series on brain health, I was a bit weary of some claims being made in the series. When he started to talk about all the dangers of fluoride, I began to become skeptical. I learned he sells his own products. I'm thankful that I found your channel which gives the best available evidenced based practices at the moment.

Hydroxyapetite toothpaste has been used around the world for more than 40 years. I have been using Dr. Jen's 10% Nano Hydroxyapetite toothpaste in Rod Form for about 1 year now and the results have been amazing. I no longer have sensitive teeth (Sensidine toothpaste is the worst), my teeth are whiter, and the impact on one of my teeth from brushing too hard has filled in.

For those of you that avoid fluoride, do you drink tea? Fluoride is a naturally occurring element found in soils, and is why green and black tea has some the highest flouride contents found in foods. I dont avoid fluoride, but i do think it's odd how many people avoid toothpaste but still consume things that are high in fluoride.

Why dont you write your doctoral thesis on hydroxyapatite.

Why won't the FDA or the ADA do their job and start checking and dare I say "regulate" companies that do use Nanohydroxies? Because can other toothpaste companies just throw fluoride in products unregulated?

What about using a $30 nanohydroxyapetite toothpaste at night and a fluoride one in the morning? We're supposed to brush twice/day anyway, right??

Plus, if it's regulated in Japan, can't we import some?

Personally i use it in conjunction to standard toothpaste, 🤷 not daily but a few times a week at the least

She mentioned Japan has a regulatory process for their hydroxyapatite toothpastes, can anyone name some good brands from Japan and where and how to buy them?

What is your opinion about the Switzerland’s new technology product called Curodont? It has to do with hydroxyapatite and fluoride.

I’ve been sceptical about fluoride for a while but just end up using it at the recommendation of my hygienist. After watching this video I just searched “fluoride lower iq” and found this article from NIH website that says “The NTP monograph concluded, with moderate confidence, that higher levels of fluoride exposure, such as drinking water containing more than 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter, are associated with lower IQ in children.” So I don’t know. Definitely a controversial topic nonetheless. Thanks for the informative video! Let me know if you want I can send you the link to the NIH site.

Good review but it didn't answer one line of questioning: Is there any reason fluoride and hydroxyapatite can't be in the same product? Do they need to be mutually exclusive, all or nothing? If not, why not have both?

Do they have a toothpaste that has both? If so, wouldn't it be the best option?

Can you look over and give your thoughts on BioMin F specifically? It's from Canada but can be ordered to the US, so I hope it's trustworthy. Especially since our regulatory agencies probably aren't gonna last much longer.
