Around the beginning or 2022, the demand for electronic components had significantly increased and manufacturers were seeing very long lead times for some key components. Semiconductor devices were particularly hard hit with lead times of many months. Car manufacturers have had to scale back production as they have not been able to get hold of all the stock they have needed.

With electronic component distributors now handling vast quantities of inventory and supplying the needs for even large manufacturers, Ian Poole of Electronics Notes, spoke to Mark Burr-Lonnon, Senior Vice President at Mouser to find out how they have been working to best supply the needs of the electronic manufacturing industry.

Burr-Lonnon said that they had been bring in vast levels of stock so they can supply stock when it is needed to the manufacturers. To accommodate this, they have increased the size of their warehouse facility to accommodate the all the stock of electronic components.

They have also improved their website to ensure that customers can find and order the electronic components they need on the website for the electronic components distributor..

Mouse has also been recruiting, but like many companies they are finding this difficult.

They have also been working with electronic component manufacturers and their customers to be able to facilitate the need of components when they are required.

How did STM get the demand for something like STM32G0 etc so wrong? Did demand for this really outstrip supply? Every time I want to buy 10 or 50 IC's from STM they seem to be unavailable. I dont buy the Covid excuse. I think Mouser etc do a great job in general but I am confused by how you offer multiple products - all of which is not available. If you order something with a 12 month lead time, it is not available. That product does not exist. It does not have a long lead time, it is unavailable. Take it off your offering. All it does is fuel the bubble. Uniil I see a steady availability of for instance STM32G050 in the package I am interested in, I just ignore their offering. I go and build a 3 wheeled car as stated. RP2040 does the job because I can actually buy it.
