How to Change Subtitles Language on YouTube

Want to see subtitles in Spanish, Arabic, French or many other languages. You can do it easily in YouTube. This video shows you how to do it on a PC. I am often asked if I can translate my drawing and Art History videos into a different language. I only speak English, but YouTube can instantly translate my words, via subtitles, into almost any language in the world. My video takes you through five simple steps to change the language of the subtitles into the language you speak. This may not work on some phones.
1. Click the subtitles button
2. Click settings
3. Click Subtitles - English auto-generated
4. Click Auto Translate
5. Select Language
I hope those of you who do not have English as your first language will be able to enjoy my art history and Drawing videos in your own language.

My sincere thanks to the following patrons who have pledged their support through Patreon for Artistinschool:

This is great! Thanks. But I can’t seem to access the other languages on my mobile app. Does this only apply for the desktop version?

Ditto to what everyone else is saying! I didn't even realise this was a feature. It is so easy to do and now I can make use of my French degree by keeping up all the French I learnt! Many thanks!

For people wondering, tap the screen for ipad users or mobile whatever
Tap screen on the video
Press three dots on the right
Press the captions and change language
Now that most likely would work.

Adding subtitles is technically easy but the translations are so awful that it is better to do it on your own for common languages. Then this time it is technically difficult.

Thank you so much, I have looked all over and was misled by all kinds of complexity (unnecessary) so I appreciate that less than 30 seconds and it dusted and done by what you shared here. Much gratitude!

Thanks SO much for your video tutorial, Paul!! I’ve been watching and listening to Flamenco for donkey’s years and have been frustrated by the Spanish subtitles! (A minor point btw - on iPad Air I don’t get the icon you refer to, but the three vertical dots at the top of the screen provide the same function.) Thanks again!

Thank you so much! In the titles of videos it would say that there were eng subs but when i would play it, it would not be in English. Your video helped solve my problem...thanks again !

Thanks for this video! I've been trying to add subtitles to my cooking videos, and for some of them, I only have music in the background.
One question, if I write a translation by myself, would it translate my uploaded one, or the autogenerated one?
