The parents never loved Emma. By creating an environment ripe for resentment and jealousy they deprived Emma of being able to have a healthy relationship with her sister. Ultimately their behavior destabilized the family and ultimately that will damage Emma too. If they had truly loved Emma they would have been better to the OP.
