I grew up in Va. Beach and jet noise is music to my ears.

I lived off of Shore Drive when I lived there & rarely went to the oceanfront during tourist season & loved hearing the jets flying over., but thats me.

public transportation is not a thing here for 90% of the places you will live in VB you will need your own transportation and it is not generally pedestrian or bicycle rider friendly as far as commuting

I live near Richmond and would far rather live near the beach. Virginia Beach is beautiful. The rural towns near there are nice.

Traffic is an issue…but the oceanfront isn’t dangerous! It’s like any other beach town in the summer, it’s full of people. All the festivals wouldn’t be held year after year in VB oceanfront if it were not a safe friendly place.

I’ve lived in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach in Virginia, Cebu, Manila, Ozamiz, Dumaguete in the Philippines, McKees Rocks and Erie in PA, and in Greenville, SC. One thing I can say is that on a day to day basis, it doesn’t matter too much, you end up pretty much doing the same things, with some minor variations. If you have kids, check the schools and crime, but that is about all you need.

I was stationed near there in Dam Neck while in the Navy. A worst place I was at was Great Lakes near Chicago. I wouldn't live in either of those places.

I lived in Titusville Florida for several years, which is a apart of the The Melbourne/Cocoa Beach metro, it's the #3 tourist spot in the U.S. behind Orlando, which is only 35 miles away btw, and Gulf Shores Alabama, The tourist won't bother me at all. The jet noise won't bother me at all either, Titusville is home to Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, jets aren't anything compared to have a rocket/shuttle launch where the air is literally shaking, I'm also Retired Army so the military presence is a plus for me.

I am a proud son of of the 7 cities. I have lived in all of them but Hampton and Newport News. Chesapeake is where I was raised and now reside in Norfolk. I learned to surf on Damn Neck and fished the Lynnhaven pier my entire childhood. Yes the traffic is bad but you left out the reason why.. We are a VERY transient area with all the military that is here, which means multiple driving styles in a confined space. I do also need to point out 1 flaw. You stated the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel is 20 miles long. that is incorrect it is actually 17.3 miles including the 2 tunnels.

After living in NE, being forced to move to Hampton Roads was a shock traffic-wise. 😂
Plus, I'm from Texas but dayum they sure do love to shoot each other here, wow. Humidity is horrid and I have such awful hate for it. Yes! My house here is 1000sq ft less than NE but is almost twice as much. And I was on a 1/3 of an acre and oh so quiet. I live by a noisy traffic-laden road. 😢
Good video! Good to know I'm not alone because I seem to be surrounded by other moms/families who just absolutely love it. 🤷‍♀️

I’m grown accustomed to the jets. The drivers and traffic are the worst though. Great city to vacation in but to reside, I’d rather live elsewhere.

Hi I am thinking of taking a job in Chesapeake area and reasonable priced 55 + community to live.
It looked like Virginia Beach had some places for $1200 and under 1 bedroom. Or are there other suggestions to live ( apartment ) as I still will have a resident in another state until I decide if i am all in.

Traffic is not that bad in the 757 something in the water is one event that not only affects Virginia but all seven cities. Traffic would be better if people would put their phone down and concentrate on the road. Also we haven’t a lot of construction going to so that is another factor.
