The Italian lifestyle - how I am figuring it out ! #16

Italy and my rustic Italian farmhouse renovation in Le Marche region of central Italy. I clean up the wall to expose the rustic old original stonework which makes for a beautiful feature in the lounge area. The stone and brick fireplace is cleaned out and I reuse a the original stone for the front of the hearth.

My visit to the builders merchants goes well as I order more materials for delivery over the coming weeks. The plastering continues as I try to work out of the corner of the lounge area where my home office will be located. It feels like progress is being made. Having pulled more out for the old barns I am able to clear deeper and get to the old big trees. An ants nest may have killed one of the trees off but I hope to salvage it. I have removed the dead branches and cleared all of the overgrown ivy and brambles. The weather is warming up with the nigh sky being bright with stars on clear nights.

i take the drone and camera out on a tour of Le Marche to show you the region near my house to give you a feel for the space and style of Italian houses.

Welcome to my channel which is all about my big plans to renovate an old disused rustic farmhouse that I purchased in rural Italy. I show you why I chose to buy a house in Italy and why I chose to live in the Marche region over places such as Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo and Puglia.

I hear on the fear of not being able to achieve perfect finishes. It’s hard to have the patience to do so when there are so many other jobs to do. I think you have to just try and be forgiving to yourself. What will make you love that place is the memories you get to share in it with friends and family, not whether every corner of it looks as good as a professional finish or carefully styled shoot on Pinterest. From here, it looks like you are doing good, solid work and making a huge difference bringing that property back to life. I really admire your humility and humanity - those are good qualities to put into your house too. Good luck!

Hola Richard, another lovely video, and you definitely don't talk too much. We like seeing it all, the work, the chatting, the running about, everything, so don't try to change. As for the fireplace, lay the bricks flat, don't need a high hearth. We have very similar in this house, and it's perfect. Don't try to be too particular, it's a naturally beautiful, rustic house. The exposed brick wall is going to look lovely. Everything you do shows the pleasure your getting, even though it's hard work. We two years in with this property, many years older, not as fit, but love every minute. That glass of wine watching the sunset makes it all worthwhile. Love from our mountain in Spain ❤️

I've watched from the beginning and it feels like you are really getting the hang of everything. The videos have improved and your commentary feels like you are much more comfortable. The drone footage to give us a look at what Marche looks like was excellent. Keep up the good work!!

It’s just a lovely idea to reuse what was originally in the house. Rustic is good. For me it’s not about making it look old. It’s about making it look authentic. You are doing a great job and will have a beautiful home.😊

I am coming back to your little you must save it or replicate it. That opening episode when you built it I thought, "why" tiny and out of place, now.... That deck represents to me why you are doing what you are doing.

I can’t be the only one that wants to rent you a huge dumpster to clean up all that trash you found in the shrubs. lol
Great videos.

What beautiful countryside - it actually looks very similar (other than the ages of the homes, of course!) to Northern California when I was growing up and there were far fewer people in the state (only 7 million at that time). We love visiting Italy and, who knows, we may show up in Le Marche!

Yesterday I made homemade marshmallow Soo good & old fashioned Coaco. No big snow here yet but Waxed rails on Flyer sled..need to replace rope then all set for the snow. Supposed to get alot this winter. Starting January paint ceiling, walls, kitchen makeover but very minimal. Keeping it simple & cost. Retired and loving it.

Another great video. Always go with your initial gut feeling. If you can't say YES immediately, then the answer is NO.

I am sure, that I'll end up somewhere in southern Europe myself, but cannot decide between Italy and Greece. For now, I cannot even work remotely nor afford to buy a property, but with every new video my determination grows stronger. Thanks for the inspiration! 🤗
