North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un attended the mass funeral of a top official on May 22, 2022, according to state media KCNA. Amid the country’s first reported outbreak of Covid-19, he was the only official not wearing a mask to the funeral of Hyon Chol-hae, the late marshal of the Korean People’s Army. Pyongyang acknowledged a national outbreak of Covid-19 on May 12, 2022, with 2.8 million people reportedly falling ill with ‘fevers’ since late April.

Kim jong il appointed hyon to teach kim jong un and help groom him so that he can become the future leader which is why kim jong un adores him so much like his second father hence the reason for this massive scale of state funeral
