I’m an atheist but I disagree with Carrier on mythicism.

Well let's assume there's no mutation. But 2or more partner reproduction leads to mixing genes therefore there would be genetic drift from earlier members of the species, the only way to avoid that would be some short of strong pull to the advrage staying the same.

Natural selection is bound to happen though, obviously having a trait that is helpful would make more appealing to mate because you are healthy and it shows in multiple ways.

You need thing replicating themselves with no mutation or them to be imortal.

With them replicating with no mutation there would still be a kinda of natural selection just not one that causes evolution, but a species in the same environment filling the same nech the ones that obtain the resources and reproduce better are more likely to outlive the other one if somehow the resources become more scarce or something.
