UN votes in favor of Palestinian membership: What does it signify? | DW News

Today, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of a Palestinian bid to become a full member, recommending the Security Council reconsider the matter. The motion, which grants the Palestinians significantly more rights to participate in General Assembly sessions, but not regular voting rights, was supported by 143 countries. The US vetoed a Security Council resolution last month that would have paved the way for that. Ahead of today's vote, Israel's ambassador to the world body shredded the UN charter, saying that was what countries who support Palestine's bid to join the UN were doing.

The Israeli ambassador seems to have forgotten that the UN granted them the territory that became Israel . There was a however a second part to the partition of the area which was mandatory Palestine namely an area for a Palestinian state . It is about time that this should be implemented.

9 countries voted against are: Argentina, Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel, Micronesia, United States, Papa New Guinea, Nauru, and Palau. These 4 namely Micronesia, Papa New Guinea, Nauru, and Palau had no choice but listen and do what they are told to do by US and Israel. Argentina has the worst government right now. Czech Republic and Hungary isolated themselves from the international community this way.

Singapore voted in favor as well. Despite being very close to Israel for historical reason, humanity and common sense prevails. Both Israel and Palestine people should have equal rights to exists.
