Mastodon is OK for those who are OK with being banned for their opinions

I remember when one of the benefits of the Internet was to route around censorship. Now, it is popular to consider some content, "toxic, " and make efforts to squelch it. I am not afraid of pixels on a screen, and I do not need someone else to protect me from ideas, even from ideas that I disagree with.

With Mastodon, it appears that instead of one possible censor, there are thousands of possible censors. I want to use a social network where each individual chooses what they consume. I do not need or want Big Brother or Big Sister manipulating me and choosing what I can experience.
