Can Your Brain Amplify a Car Key?

I've been told all my life that if you press a car key against your head when you use it, it actually amplifies the signal. But is it true? What is the physics behind this trick? Let's find out!

*Thanks for watching!* Try this at home if you want to. (And let's just admit I do the best Keeps ads alright.)

Let’s be honest, the whole point of this video was just for Kyle to flex his shredding skills!

Kyle just wanted to show off his guitar skills.

A little fun fact about this episode, something most musician know a little bit about, is the faces made while playing an instrument are completely involuntary!

*Kyle actually plays guitar well *
*Me:* "Not gonna lie, you had us in the first half."

Guitar physics correction: You aren’t creating a node when you place your finger there. There are always nodes along the string’s length, but the fundamental is much louder and it’s the only one we usually perceive. Placing your finger lightly over various points along the string blocks the fundamental and other wavelengths while allowing one of the nodes to continue vibrating relatively undisturbed. The sound of all those different overtone notes together combine into the sound we normally hear when we pluck a string. Read up on the harmonic or overtone series for more. It gets super interesting! Especially when you find out about how blurry the line between rhythm and pitch/polyrhythm and harmony actually gets. Source: Have long hair. Am dead guitar YouTuber.

Kyle: "You are mostly meat"
Me: "Nuh-uh, I'm mostly water--"
Kyle: "And that meat is mostly water"
Me: as you were, science man"

(starts reflecting on all of my old friends and acquintances)
Fuck, that's true.

Come on, Kyle. You could've used the "Every guy with a ponytail knows how to rock" line with the Keeps ad. It would've *resonated* well.

Kyle: " Every guy with a ponytail knows how to rock. "
Me, a guy with a ponytail who doesn't know how to play an instrument. " Yeah...sure. "

"Hello doctor"
"Hello Kyle"
"You too"
I can feel the pain that came afterwards and the thousand of hours spend thinking about it.

The pause between "best car show" and "in the world" was at least 5 minutes too short. Still a perfect 5/7 video tho

Hello, RF engineer here. I have a pretty HUGE point of contention. In your equation at 9:10, you (and i guess the folks who wrote that paper) completely dropped the relative dielectric of the medium the wave is traveling. The real equation is Lambda = C / (Sqrt(er) * f). As you say, water is a pretty strong dielectric due to its H bonding. Naïve google search puts the er of water at 78. Google is also pretty good at preserving units, try searching: (speed of light / ( sqrt(78) * 315 MHz))/2 to meters. So whatever is acting as the antenna in your body, is some multiple of that length. The wavelength you have at 9:10 is for a wave traveling in air.
Caveat, to all that. That assumes the wave (more precisely the E and H fields) are 100% contained in the body. If whatever mechanism is creating the antenna allows the fields to exist in both the body and air simultaneously, the effective dielectric will be somewhat less than 78 but still pretty large in comparison to common dielectric materials used for antenna design. All that being said, love your work, always leaning something new, subbed long ago.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this whole episode was made just so you could show off your excellent riff's and hair, it was a 2 for 1. well played sir, well played
