I watch this movie curled up in a sleeping bag in the middle winter living in my van, homeless, off a chrome book, the freezing air felt like 4D, this movie felt amazing in that moment.

I haven't seen 'The Revenant' since it came out at the movies, but I'd happily sit through it all again. Such an awesome film, and I'm not someone who likes a great deal of movies.

Listening to this brought back that grim, honest approach to cinematography throughout, how it managed to be uncompromising yet without a trace of gratuitousness to it. The whole movie felt like watching a nature documentary, without the commentary. My friend reckoned it was actually a movie about the environment, with all the characters just supporting cast. The beauty of this movie is that another 4 or 5 movies could be made, based upon the other characters who feature- and all of them would have a story just as interesting.

Listening to this again made me think of the doomed Franklin expedition of 1845-46, I actually looked at images of John Torrington and the fellow sailors who perished in the Arctic while listening to this soundtrack, and it made their experience feel much more 'real' to me. I could picture the cold, bleak ice and now, that struggle for survival, that sense of being very fragile and vulnerable in the elements. If you don't mind pictures of (well-preserved) corpses, I suggest you take a look for yourself. Their gritted teeth make you realise how cold they must've been up until their deaths. If they ever made a movie about the Franklin Expedition I'd love to hear a soundtrack like this to go with it...
