I am an ADHD kid and it makes me feel more normal when people speak out and say they have ADHD! Thanks so much!

Regarding the bullying policy (at our local school…not sure if it’s nationwide)

Students should not be forced to miss class time to meet with their bullies and counselor every time they are bullied by their fellow students. They should not be pushed ahead to the next grade when they’re not ready after they’ve missed hours of class time every week because they were talking it out with the bully and forced to makeup the missed class work every evening until bedtime, losing precious sleep, family and play time, even with a 504.

The victimized student should not have valuable class time and learning taken away from them because “it’s policy”.

Her bullies threatened her friends, telling them not to play or hang out with her anymore, until she had none.

She was shoved in the playground, pushed into the playground fence several times, pushed down a set of cement stairs, and verbally harassed daily. (This I wasn’t aware of until she opened up to me after she reported a student for what happened next) She was withdrawn and hardly ever talked, even at home. She met with her counselor and her bullies multiple times a week to talk it out, (without my knowledge) missing out on valuable class time over and over, and until she was so behind, she should not have been sent on to the next grade, despite the school insisting she be sent on the next grade level.

Then one of the bullies threatened to kill her, and she had the courage to speak up.

I was given the option of pressing charges. After learning the student was in counseling for this and other issues, I chose not to pursue charges but let the school know it wouldn’t be appropriate for them to be in the same classroom anymore. I was also hoping that being moved away from the bullies would stop these attacks.

I began receiving emails from the school admin, CC’d with the counselor and teachers;

Sorry, it’s policy that we don’t move the students due to bullying.

I wasn’t asking. And this isn’t bullying, it’s death threats.

We see your point and have moved her. Oh no, the bully has a girlfriend in the new classroom who has decided to make your daughter’s life a living hell. But it’s policy not to…

You cannot keep my child safe, so I’m removing her from public school.

I may not have all the tools that public schools have, but in the last 3 years without the constant threat of bullying, she has opened up and blossomed into an amazing young woman who has gone from never talking to never stops talking, from getting C’s and D’s to A’s and B’s; a wonderful big sister and kind person who stands up for herself and doesn’t have to worry about constant bullying every day.

School policies should be like rules; meant to be bent, and occasionally broken. They should not be an end all be all, or at the expense of another human being. Teachers should be given more tools to help their students than they have currently, and not have to rely on policy loving admins to make decisions for their classrooms or students.

Students should not be given better grades unearned, nor should they be pushed ahead to the next grade when they’re not ready.

I want to make sure schools see this so this doesn’t happen to another child. Not every parent is in the position to be able to take on homeschooling, and I could not imagine the anguish of a parent in the same position who may not have the same tools or opportunities we have.

Has a student (former or current) ever seen one of your videos and then asked if it was about them?

Here’s a real story for you: girl in 7th grade asks the history teacher why there are two USA’s. The big one under Canada and the smaller one to the left of Canada.

I love your videos! It’s so cool that your students know about your account, I know I’d be amazed if one of my teachers were as cool as you!

Real story: my friend took her bestie’s coat for funsies ya know and uses it as a hoodie- a teacher told her to take it off (because it’s against the rules to wear a hoodie or wear a jacket in a class but she wasn’t in a class but ya know-) she takes it off but the teacher keeps chasing her, claiming that she wasn’t listening to him ignoring him and being rude
