G'day Guys! One of the main reasons that 24 hour fast food is a rarity is that here people have to be paid properly...Our minimum wage federally is currently $23.23 per hour or a little under $15 US and casuals get an extra 25%. there are also penalty rates for working late eg:- for 10 pm to 6 am there is an extra 15% loading...So it is just not profitable to stay open except in high traffic areas...barefoot? well folks here have bare feet at home all the time and many but not all don't bother to put shoes on when popping out to the shops... Cheers!

As an Aussie Sheila, I’ve gone barefoot all my life & am as healthy as a Malley bull (70 plus years). The only time I wears/wore shoes was to enter & depart my employment building or clubs, I didn’t even wear those things on my feet at my wedding.

We've never had a 24hr retail culture partially because of the high wage atructure, and partially because of population density or lack of. Most large shopping centres are open 7 days a week but not late into the night. In large city centres there are hospitality places that are open very late. And late night food vans that catch the party crowds. MacDonalds are the only fast food chain open 24/7. In the suburbs and regional areas the local supermarkets are most likely open til 7 or 8pm and fast food or local take away places maybe open til 8 or 9. But we dont expect anything different and you just need to organise yourself to get your shopping done. And being able to go out at 11pm just to get a donut isnt really a life necessity. You dont NEED to do that. Its just a convenience thing. As for bare feet. Absolutely. All day anyday except if its freezing cold or I have to go "out". Streets are pretty clean. Ive never heard of anyone getting worms thru the skin on their feet. I think thats a 3rd world tropical thing. Nothing like the sand or grass between your toes. Or even mud. Its very common up north where its hot or on the coast. Not as common but not unusual in the colder southern states where I live. Grew up in the suburbs, barefoot, along with parents and brother, and neighborhood kids, with minimum requirement of wearing thongs if leaving the house to visit friends, go to the local shops etc. More unusual to see people in closed in shoes in summer. Only reserved for more formal occasions when you have to look and behave properly. 😁

As you would be aware there are several channels that contrast the U.S and Australia culturally. The comments of a positive nature are a treat from black Americans. Being a highly social place and people Aussies are very accepting of mature remarks of like minded folks. Cheers from a 63 year old bloke 😎👍

This guy lives in Brisbane, but not all shops close early as he says, esp here in Melbourne where you can buy snacks at almost any time.
But we do look forward to having time off and enjoying ourselves.

Everyone also needs to understand that this family is living in queens. That means that not all what their experiences are, occurs everywhere in Australia

24 / 7 supermarkets took off in Australia around 2000 - 01. but only in City CBD and outer CBD suburbs. of course most gas stations are 24 / 7 these days.

Loved the video! I wanna move to Australia so bad!
Also I’ve met two Aussies in my life one had raging anger issues and the other one asked me why I spoke Spanish instead of Mexican since I’m Mexican American. 🙃

Im not sure what the opposition is to going barefoot. I love it. Ive been barefoot most of my life. I only wear shoes if i have to. Ive heard some say its unhygienic to be barefoot in a Yet u wear shoes that step in more crap than my feet do because being barefoot im constantly watching where i step plus my feet are washed daily .

The ones who dont work live on the beach and surf all day there are some beaches up the coast where no tourist go that just have people living in shacks waiting for the waves

2:47 as an australian, we are very friendly! We greet eachother on the streets, infact, my mum will have like 5+ conversations with strangers a day, each lasting like 5 minutes!

By Hot Christmas, we mean 40+Celcius with 75%+ Humidity. (So think 104-113F)
If you want a 24hr place, 9 times out of 10 it'll be a drive-through, Maccas or Hungy Jacks (Burger king), Which MAY be open 24/7, if it is it MAY be drive-through only for a few hours during the night. 7/11 similar, though may be external counter-service for a few hours during the night.
You see bare-foot in the regular shopping centres isn't that common, outside of living near the beach. Thongs however (Flip Flops) Are normal as hell.
Ketchup and Tomato Sauce are different things. Ketchup has a lot more sugar.

It's not just Australians that like going barefoot, New Zealanders also do. I lived there for 3 years, and remember being instructed by the school principal at our initial interview that the children needed hats and shirts/thirty with sleves to protect them from the sun, but that shoes were optional, so kids could go to and from school with no shoes. Granted it was a school in a ruralish area, but it still caught me by surprise as in Australia primarily and secondary school children have to wear a uniform and that always include footwear.

Food stores in Australia in the suburbs close early mainly because we do not have the population off Europe or America .
Simply can’t afford to keep them open .
The suburbs is dead at night during the week .

Love the reactions! Would love to see the bloopers video of you guys rehearsing speaking together in sync. That would be fun. Oh by the way bloopers is what Aussies call outakes. Not sure if Americans refer to it the same way.
