Recording Arthur Sullivan's The Light of the World

This is an absolutely magnificent and often intensely beautiful and moving oratorio, and the performance and recording are superb. A wonderful achievement for all concerned in producing it. It confirms for me what I have believed for many years, that Sullivan was Britain's greatest composer.

YES YES YES At last this is the real " The Light of the World" and shows itself, without a doubt, to be Sullivan`s choral masterpiece. Conducted by a man who completely understands the work, with its emphasis on the stage not the and performed by a marvellous choir and superb orchestra and by a team of young soloists who relish the dramatic emphasis. This is how to make Victorian Oratorio, for so long ridiculed by critics, to come alive and make its true dramatic impact. Certainly Sullivan`s work has been denigrated for far too long and the new recording shows the comments of his detractors, usually born out of snobbish disdain, to be utterly wrong. Listen to the whole recording and see it as a moving and emotional work, and in its treatment of Jesus, a work ahead of its time. Well done to all involved.

I agree with Martin Yates. This choral work: The Light of the World is beautiful written, beautifully sung - I had never heard it before but now love the work & want to obtain the recording. Thank you!

Looking through my collection of randomly collected music I find I have a vocal score of this work. Not knowing it I Googled for it and have run into this wonderful appraisal. I doubt whether there will be an opportunity to sing in it unfortunately.
