The dynamic between these two characters is honestly undermined in S2 which is such a shame...they both have issues and cause harm to people around them (Rue and Maddy) and also to themselves (Jules c*tting herself and sleeping around with strangers, Nate sports and the headbanging floor) as an act of reclaiming control while trying to deal with their deepest problems. Jules is understandably doing better than him because she transitioned and is more honest to herself whereas Nate shuns away any part of himself he considers different and puts on a persona that usually gets him anything while sacrificing his true self.
