or Bugs Kill RAID dead

The Linux Internal series continues with a look at three kinds of RAIDs: Firmware, Hardware and Software RAID. I will take a look back in time to discuss why RAID came to be, and what some of its pitfalls are. I also take a look at the different raid levels and even a couple of hybrid raids.

I personally think RAID in its current form is outdated, there are better technologies which are available now, that can scale up to the storage demands of even the largest organizations. For home users RAID is probably still viable. The only RAIDs I trust are hardware RAIDs and ZFS (yeah that includes TrueNAS). TrueScale I do not yet trust, but only because it is new.

My dad worked on hardware RAID like CLARiiON used to exist completely outside of the host line a Sun box and would connect via SCSI or FC.

Hey DJ Ware, great video as always!) Maybe as an idea for a future Linux Internals video: ACPI in Linux, managing power supply to connected devices, /proc/acpi/ and /sys/power directories ? Thanks

Could never understand why can't I add another stripe to raid 0, another mirror to raid 1, or switch from raid1 to raid5 by adding a drive, expand raid5 or even switch from raid5 to raid6 by adding a drive. Makes no sense. I understand that OpenZfs has subproject issue #12225 to allow expansions of existing RaidZ but it appears a long way off.

One thing that confuses me is when to use LVM over MD
